Not sure about one that snaps on the side but I know most clips are made now with the bottom part that touches the chin is bigger and smother so it can't pinch the chin.
Hi
Does anyone know of a bike helmet that snaps close on the side instead of under the chin? My daughter is terrified of being pinched under the chin by the strap snap. She's 3.5 years; we've been looking, but no luck so far. Thanks.

My kids are always scared of that too....I am surprised somebody hasn't reinvented the kid's bike helmet-its a million dollar idea for sure.
We use a skate helmet because they protect a gazillion times better (the kind you see freestyle bike riders wear as opposed to racers... the "norm" bike helmet is the "racing" kind... which seems silly to me. I don't need a helmet built for 45mph over the handlebars collisons... I need one that protects the much softer side and back of the skull! One that's rounded to minimize impact and neck trauma! Not a racing helmet.). The straps on the freestyle bike/ skate helmets are long enough to move the snap to either side of the helmet by an ear. They also have adjustable foam inserts (super thick and plain old thick... so they're good for several years as head size changes.
I don't know of a type that snaps on the side, but I'll tell you what we to when we snap our kids' helmets on. I keep my thumb touching their chin and snap the buckle underneath my thumb to ensure they don't get pinched. It's a little more challenging to snap, but it works.
don't know about a side buckle one but these are supposed to be pinch proof
