Well to say this and not be too gross I had a child who was not feeling well all day yesterday. Took me almost 2 hours to clean the mess and well as I thought I got all the smell out and stain; its back. My living room stinks so bad and the stain is there. I've done the hot soapy water, resolve, lysol and febreeze. I'm not so concerned with the stain as I am the smell but getting both out would be great. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated!

Try vinegar... it will smell like vinegar after, but it will dissipate. Or, vinegar and baking soda.
Or, go to a pet store and see what products they have for removing stains/odor... the pet products often work just as well for baby bodily fluids.

For me, when my kids had those illnesses, I used a "puppy pee pad" (which they use in hospitals too) under them and around them and thick towels... then kept a rubbish can right near by... my kids would then throw up in the trash can, if they had to. Which I taught them to do. I don't know how old your child is...but if she/he is old enough, you can keep the rubbish can right near by.
I also kept a roll of paper-towels right near by... and Lysol etc.

I hope your little one is feeling better... just watch that it does not return... sometimes it does.

All the best,
Susan

yep -- baking soda or vinegar for stuff you have in your pantry, or should. As for pet products, I once saw someone use Nature's Miracle on a freshly left dog gift. Seriously, it was a miracle before our very eyes -- gone, and no smell either!

I would stay away from air fresheners and Lysol. They simply add perfume to the stench, making it worse.

I, too, was going to suggest vinegar or baking soda (don't use at the same time or you'll have a volcano!) Matsenbacher's Protein Remover works well-find it Home Depot and some grocery stores/TArget.

Kids'n'Pets.

Or another enzymatic cleaner. You SOAK the area (right down into the padding of the carpet), let it sit and then put a towel over it to soak it up. The enzymes break down organic material (like the proteins, fats, sugars, & acids that make up stomach contents).

You can find it or one like it at any pet supply store, most grocery stores, & online.
