My 5 year old is grinding her teeth at night. I am going to call her dentist for her regular check up and ask the dentist about the grinding. Does anyone else know about this and why they do this?

What can I do next?

My son does that also and I spoke to the dentist and the dentist said that it is okay that son son does it for now. He says that the teeth he has now can take a lot of grinding and it will not hurt them. The only concern he would have is when my son gets older and continues to grind when he is a teenager. My son is 5 years old. He has grinded his teeth ever since he got teeth in.

Sorry to hear this, I don't why people grind thier teeth. But I can say I found out that I do. I changed denists many years ago and he noticed it by looking at my teeth. Grinding can do alot of damage. He prescibed a night gaurd that goes over your teeth at night. It's not uncomfortable. When I first started wearing it the headaces I was having went away, just as my denist said they would. Now when I forget to put the night gaurd in I can feel it in my jaws, teeth, neck, etc. So it will be a good thing for you to take him to the denist and check out the possibility of getting a night gaurd. My guess is this is where we take out the stress of life. Not sure what a 5 yr old would stress about, but you never know, the little ones worry about things we never think of. I have recently noticed my 3 yr old grinding at night some times as well, so maybe it's inhereted?

I have a 6 year old that grinds her teeth so loudly at night it can wake you up! According to her most recent dentist here in Bradenton, it is very common for children to do. I was told that, in children, teeth grinding is not related to stress. If you are close enough to wake her up when she does it, I would try to do so. It is good to try to break the habbit before the perm teeth come in. My husband also grinds his teeth and he has a guard to wear.

Hello S., My daughter is 7 she is been doing this for a long time, her dentist say is very normal, most of kids do that when they are sleeping, as longes she is not damaging her theeth, so is better if you take her to her check up, just to make sure.
Good luck
