Hi Moms,

Need some help. My husband & I have become Temporary Placement Parents for 2 little boys, 1 month & 17 months old. Today we had to get the 17 month old caught up on his shots & they gave him the Chicken Pox Vaccine. My question for you moms out there is, If he by chance gets them is there any help out there we can get, because I have never had the Pox. What I mean by any help out there is, if he gets the CP, would we be able to go to the hospital & have them keep him with me in the room so that I don'tget them or what. I really can't afford to get the CP myself, I have 3 other boys at home to take care of & my husband works a full time job. I appreciate all the response I get from you & hope everyone is enjoying the New Year & the nice weather, for now.

What can I do next?

The Chicken Pox are so rare now a days that if he does get them it would be a mild case and I don't think they will keep him at the hospital because he would have to be in isolation (sp?) so he doesn't infect others esp. pregnant women. But really because chicken pox is so rare now I wouln't worry about.

Have you considered getting the vaccination as well? I'd talk to your doctor about that. It's a much more difficult thing for adults to deal with than for children. He probably won't get the pox from the vaccination though, so I'm guessing you'll be fine. I would seriously consider vaccinating yourself. If he does break out in pox, you'll already be exposed to it by then and it wouldn't do any good to separate you two once he has them (is that what you were saying?). Hopefully it won't be a problem!

Well, usually they would have suggested you get vaccinated too as CP is a live vaccine, perhaps you have already been exposed. I doubt it, but I suppose there is an outside chance.
Um... I would call YOUR doc and ask what to do.
Have your other children had them? Been vaccinated?
I had chicken pox as a child. MY brother had them twice. (Yes, you can get them more than once).
GOOD LUCK!

Even the vaccine is not a guarantee. My oldest son was around 2 when he had 2 different mild cases of it after being exposed to other children who had it, and the vaccination was not out when he was a baby. My middle child had the vaccination. When my oldest was 14, middle was 9 and my daughter was 3 months, my oldest woke up covered in spots (Christmas Eve). My middle son got a milder case of the bumps a few days later, as well as my baby. Then I got a case of the shingles.

You might ask if you can get the vaccination, because hopefully, if you are exposed to it, then maybe it will be a mild case.

They're not going to hospitalize a child for chicken pox especially. Typically, it's pretty mild in kids.

I've never had it either so I can relate somewhat. If the kids have been vaxed, chances are they won't catch it and that is why they've been vaxed. You should get yourself vaxed if you are concened. The vax is not 100% as I personally found so you als might consider getting your children vaxed for cp as well.

M.,
By the time you knew he had the Chicken Pox (when the little blisters appear) it would be too late for you. You would have already been exposed and caught the virus.

I had the Chicken Pox at 21 and it was horrible. You should ask your doctor if you should get the vaccine.
