ok. Moms I am not sure if my son has chicken pox or not but he did get the shot to "avoid" them. here is what I find. one small red spot on his forehead then another skin colored spot in his head. a couple of spots on his front neckline that are red. but not raised bumps. SO I need to know what you all think? Thanks for your help no fever no cough no other symptoms.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your words of wisdom. But i am almost 100% taht its not pox. Bc he has had the same red spot (its getting smaller) on his head. And he has none on his belly-back or anywhere else but his forhead and i thought on his neck when he got up this morning the mark on his necks a very light almost gone. Thanks again

S.,
Yes, you can still get chicken pox even after you've been vaccinated. I have seen quite a few kids in my childrens school come down with them, even after the shot!

However have you considered the possibility that they could be mosquito bites? The mosquitoes around here are thick right now, every time we are outside it seems we are under attack by them. I was looking at my 5 year olds neck which was covered with little red bumps and wondering what in the world it was, until I remembered the mosquitos. Just a thought.

I've heard you can get them with the vax. There are diff. strains.

I know chicken pox is def. going around.. I've heard from several people in diff. areas in the Metro area that have them.

Hi S.,
I don't have the answers you are looking for but I do know your child can still get he chicken pox even if he had the shot. Vaccines are not 100% protection.
I don't vaccinate my child and I would rather he have the chicken pox now rather then later in life....can we come over to your house and play. lol :)

There are so many different strains of viruses and viruses change, that I believe it would be best to check it with your pediatrician to be safe. Even with a vaccine, you can still catch the virus/ illness. (they are not 100% protection against anything.)

My oldest, 13, had them 8 years ago, the shot was either not available yet or just coming out I can't remember which. Chicken pox are not red marks they are blisters. They are full of fluid. My son had a fever the day before the blisters appeared and it continued for several days. What you describe doesn't sound like chicken pox to me. Did he recently get the shot? Maybe it's just a reaction to it.

My son got the chicken pox 8 years ago from day care. One of the older kids had gotten the vac. the week before and then came to daycare....he infected most of the daycare center. We were at the pediatrician for something else one day and I asked what the funny red mark on my son's belly was...the response..."it's just a mark not chicken pox." Next day when daycare called and told me he had chicken pox, I told them no he didn't. The doctor said it wasn't a pox....well needless to say, I was pretty upset, went back to the doctor's office where they put is in a back hall for 2 hours, to tell me well yesterday it wasn't a pox and today it is.....

With Chicken pox you may not have a high fever, and unless the pox are in side the throat or mouth no couging.

Enjoy the 10 days to 2 weeks at home.
