So What Happened?

Thank you so much. And thank you for the lovely honest stories. In all things there are bad and good as I expected. Thank you so much for the heads up. It is prudent for me to work hard to prove to everyone "mom" can handle what is going on and have the hospital staff trust that! I really thank everyone who answered. Best, L. Talley DONA Doula

I delivered at West Suburban Hospital and loved them... and their c-section rate is one of the lowest if not THE lowest in the area. I labored there for 51 hours and 39 minutes and my water was broke for over 24 hours all before I gave birth (vaginally) to my 10 pound baby... anywhere else would have cut me open. I was very happy with my choice of hospital.

The Chicago ICAN chapter (International Cesarean Awareness Network) is an excellent resource, though you have to request to join the mailing list and access it. ICAN is for ALL women, whether it's their first pregnancy and they want to educate themselves, whether they've had a c-section and want to avoid a repeat, or are planning a c-section and simply are interested in knowing about what to expect, risks and benefits, alternatives, etc. We support ALL birth choices and the goal is to inform and educate. The women who make up the group have experienced a variety of healthcare situations ranging from hospital to home birth, and can generally give you information about the birth climate at specific hospitals and how specific healthcare providers practice.
