Chevy Tahoe Pros and Cons

We are looking into getting a Tahoe. Probably like a 2005 or so. I was just wondering what people who owned them or previously owned them thought of them. Is it a good SUV? Our current vehicle doesn't have rear a/c so we have to face all the vents to the back for our son and it still isn't enough for him here in Houston.

What can I do next?

I don't have a Tahoe but I have a Suburban - which is pretty close. I've had mine since 2001 - $150k miles and it still runs wonderfully!!! My husband has a Chevy Avalanche (essentially a suburban turned into a truck) and we're having the same wonderful experience. Since you don't need as much space as a suburban (I have 3 kids) I think the Tahoe is a great choice.

I'd recommend going to sites like NADA.com, KBB.com, Edmunds.com, etc.

You can look-up used cars, get specs on gas mileage, cargo space, and both expert/consumer reviews, estimated costs for repair as well as purchase.

They've been incredibly helpful for us in making decisions on cars. People are really loyal to car brands, so you'll likely find people who love GMs will tell you to go for it whereas a Ford/Chrysler person will tell you to avoid them. The reviews on these sites are very unbiased from that standpoint and really just rate the car on how it drives, how much it costs to maintain and pros/cons to take into consideration.

Hello Brenda ~ I have a 2008 Tahoe w/the 3rd row it has air vents in the back which I know in Texas you need :0) I love my Tahoe my only complaint is the 3rd row for me is a waste (have a family of 5) my youngest 5 yrs & 19 months; their carseats are behind the driver & passenger seats. The 3rd row is basically unused the seats stay folded down having said that the seats don't fold flat (i think there would be more room if they did) also our Tahoe is a V8....gas guzzler :0( but once I get cruising on the freeway it switches to V4; which is much better for gas mileage. Our lease will be up next year & we are looking at the Chevy Traverse the only reason we are not staying w/the Tahoe is b/c it is a gas guzzler.

I currently have a 2002 Tahoe, and it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. We are actually thinking of selling it and getting a new one, but I'm having second thoughts about it because it has been so reliable. Never know when you'll get a lemon.

Actually have you already picked out a used car?? Like I said we are thinking of selling ours.....and we aren't trading it in. Would you be interested in it? It's a 2002 LT Tahoe, leather seats, white. Has a few dings on it, but other than that, it is in great condition. Never been in an accident and has a new fuel pump and battery. About 115,000 miles....asking price $10k. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you some pics.

We just gave up our 03 suburban and I loved the rear AC!!! I also loved the chevy brand SUVs run forever and we had no issues when something did need to be replaced. My husband would go an pull from the car yard (Junk Yard) and replace.

I was pregnant with my first child when the Chevy Tahoes came out. I wanted one so badly, but it was near impossible to test drive one at the time, and my driveway only left a 2 inch clearance on each side, which probably wasn't going to work out for me when backing out of the driveway each day. Nine years later I finally got my first Tahoe and love it....loved it so much I got another one. I still have both my Tahoes (2005 & 2009). They are wonderful vehicles. At this point I can't imagine a better vehicle with children. It offers everything we need in our active lives. Good luck.
