Really, I have never heard of it.
We have received junk mail from them, but we get junk mail form everyone. It's a bit overwhelming.

So my question is; Has anyone an opinion on this college? Those of you in Philly?

My daughter is a senior, she has a variety of interests: veterinary, engineering, physics, writing, architecture, Criminal Justice, political Science

This college has offered her a scholarship.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone. I will check out collge prowler.
She wants a smaller college.
Her thoughts are all over the place right now. It's all a bit overwhelming to her.
My concern was exactly what Dawn stated, Can she get into a graduate program at a top tier school with an undergrad from this school.

She was actually thinking about in-state (VA) and cheaper, then going to Cornell, Columbia or U of Chicago for her graduate degrees. She will most likely get a Law degree if she doesn't go the technical or engineering route. This is my thought, she thinks she wants to be a vet. I dont' think that will be challenging enough for her.

This is the child we tease will run for president one day. She just might.

My 13 yo already has her type of college picked out. She wants an art school. Somewhere she can be expressive and become a muralist. She will be the starving artist, we'll have to support her but she'll be happy. lol

Hi Margie - I can't speak to the program, but the campus is in a lovely suburban-esque neighborhood. (Its right on the edge of Philly.)

It's a great school! Very popular in this area. A friend of mine from HS attended for undergrad and grad. She is a special ed teacher.

I think once your daughter narrows down what type of field she wants to major in, the college decision will be easier. While there are a lot of great schools in/near Philly, picking a major and focusing in on a career may help to pick a school known for excellence in that field.

Temple has a great law/criminal justice program. Architecture too, I think.
Highly recommend Univ of Penn for vet and/or med school.

Regardless, if CHC offered a scholarship, it might be worth taking. Great school. And she could always attend CHC for undergrad and transfer to another school for grad school.

I attended Bloomsburg Univ. for nursing.

Good luck!

Hi Margie, I'm sorry I don't know anything about Chestnut Hill. But I wanted to say, if your daughter is interested in engineering Drexel is an excellent school. It's a co-op school with a 5 year BS, was on my son's short list. He chose RIT over Drexel for a few reasons.

1. RIT offered a slightly larger Merit Scholarship than Drexel.
2. He's not very, uh, street smart and RIT has an all inclusive suburban campus while Drexel is in the city.
3. If he went out of NYS he would lose substantial state grants.

I'd like to say, most engineering schools are jonsing for more girls. At RIT, the ratio is 73% male, so she may get larger scholarships just by virtue of being female if she majors in engineering.

Once she starts sending in her apps, I think she will get many academic scholarship offers, especially if her SATS are over 1600.

In addition to a sophomore at RIT, I have a hs senior too. But his interests and grades are very different from the first one, so it's like starting all over again.

If Chesnut Hill is close, why not take a tour of the campus, then you'll get a 'feeling' about the place. And I'm sure her guidance counselor has an opinion of it as well.

Also, my guy's daughter went to Temple Law, if it's going to be political science, Temple is an excellent choice. She's now a corporate attorney in Manhattan.

HTH!

:)
