My sister and I are borrowing a lakehouse to celebrate our parent's 40th anniversary. We are wanting to make the weekend very special, however are both on budgets, so we are looking for ideas of little tokens/actions that we can do to make the weekend more memorable. We have come up with leaving chocolates on the pillows at night, having the kiddos draw pictures (6 years, 2 years and 9 months) and leaving them for our parents to find - but other than that, we are coming up short with more ideas. Does anyone have any good ideas of other stuff we can do that is cheap and maybe could involve the kids (their grandkids)? Any help is appreciated. We are already paying for the transportation there, all the food and personal necessities, so we have pretty much spent our money. Thanks!
How about blowing up a few of your favorite prints and put them in really nice frames for decor and these would be theirs(parents) to keep. What about teaching the 6 year old a fav song of theirs or letting him or her lip sing it.. That would get a laugh out of everyone and it could be a family thing.. Hope this helps out a little
Make home videos for your parents... Let the kids do one, maybe have a very funny one, maybe one that shows growing up with them your sister and you can do... Maybe just you and your sister sitting in front of the camera drinking coffee and tell them to pour themselve and enjoy memory lane... Maybe make 2 or 3 movies for them to watch, they don't have to be too long, make one that is serious too... Are they staying 2 or 3 nights... are you going to be there too, maybe you could hide the movies, have one for each night... tell them where to find them.. make them go on a scavenger hunt...

go to www.smilebox.com and make a slide show from pictures you have on your computer. there are people around that knew them as newlyweds, get your digital camera and record a 20 second message. you can include them with the smilebox. you can burn a dvd. it's a cool website. you can use it for free or sign up. the advantage of signing up is that your slide shows will fill up the whole screen and no ads/links would show on the side. you can send the slide show to anybody/everybody you want. One year I made a scrapbook for my parents. I collected pictures (with the help of my aunt) from when they were growing up, when they met, the wedding, before kids, of me and my brother when we were young, and current pictures (basically a timeline of their lives). They loved it! It was a cheap project, that took a lot of time, but it was worth all the effort!
Something we did for my parents 50th anniversary -- we had friends and family members send us photos and write letters describing a funny or special memory they had of my parents. I put everything into an album and we gave it to them the night before the party. There was so much laughter and tears as they read all of the sweet and funny stories -- they absolutely loved it!
What we did for my Granddaddy's 80th birthday can would be great for your parents anniversary. I had all of us grandkids make a scrapbook page of us with my Granddaddy. Pictures, places, whatever that was memorable for us with him. We put it all together in a scrapbook, for him. It wasn't expensive at all and it was really fun for him to look thru. He loved it!
