Hi mamaS!
I need help. I have a job interview tomorrow. The last job interview I had was in 2005. I feel so out of touch.
The job is with Toys r us & babies R us. Last time i remember, it was a BAD thing to show up to an interview in jeans. That still hold true?
Also, where can I get a pair of dressy pants for cheap?
I don't have any nice black pants or khakis. All I own is jeans.
I also can't spend a lot of money.
So where do I go!?! AHH I'm all nervous..

What can I do next?

Go to Ross. Actually, Goodwill/Salvation Army and all sorts of thrift stores has tons of very nice slightly used dress pants for around $6. I have bought tons there, all from GAP, Banana Republic and nice brands like that. I would go to the interview in a pair of nice black pants and a blouse. Thrift stores usually have lots of really cute button ups too. Wear a pretty necklace or earrings to add style, you can find them everywhere for cheap. If you don't usually wear makeup, a little bit of mascara, powder to even your skin tone and some light lipstick or even lip stain will help you look pulled together.

Ross, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Target. I'd try buying new first. If you get the job, you may be wearing those pants alot.

Good luck!

Second hand store or even goodwill. You can normally find stuff with tags still attached.

Can you ask a neighbor "Hey Sue. This is kind of weird for me to ask you this, but I have a job interview tomorrow and I am so nervous. All I have right now are jeans, and I think I need to show up for the interview in something nicer than jeans. Do you happen to have a pair of kakhis or dress pants that I could borrow just for one day? I think you and I are about the same size."

If you were my neighbor I'd TOTALLY let you borrow some. If the pair that ends up fitting you isn't my most favorite pair, I'd probably even let you keep them - b/c if you are to dress in kakhis for the job, then you likely will need to wear them to work daily.

That being said - if you ARE to dress up nice for the interview you will likely need your own pair. I'd try Goodwill honestly. There are a lot of nice pair there sometimes, and for just a few bucks. But TRY them on! You can't return most/all items to Goodwill or other thift stores.

First I would look at your friends. Can you borrow an outfit from a friend or family member? This would be your cheapest bet. If not, Goodwill or the clearance rack. A cosignment store is also an option. I would think that a nice pair of pants and a polo type shirt would be acceptable for Toys R Us. You can get a nice pair of khakis from Wal-Mart or Target for like $20 or so. If nothing else, buy the outfit wear it and then return it. I wouldn't suggest this just incase something happens and you can't return it.

The winter stuff will be on clearance now or in the next 2 weeks at most major department stores. As you can afford it start to scour the racks of clearance stuff at stores like Penney's, Macy's, Kohl's, ect. You should be able to find good quality clothes for a fraction of the price. Stock up on a few classic pieces that won't go out of style. If you can find a suit in a neutral color such as black, navy, grey, or beige you will have something you can wear for interviews, funerals, for years to come. Even a nice blazer and pants works in most cases. Then round it out with some nice blouses and sweaters.

Good luck on the interview.

Congrats on the interview. Personally I would try and dress as nice as possible. It's important to stand out, especially in today's uber-competitive environment.

Do you have a relative or friend that you can borrow some nice black pants/blouse from?

Consignment shops are great as well and at this time of year I'm sure Target or Wal-Mart can spot you some black/pants/blouse for under $20.

Good luck. Dress up. Chin up!
