My son is 11 months today. I was wondering if it was too early to start giving him Cows milk? He eats cottage cheese and scrambles eggs made with cows milk and has no problem with that.

The rule of thumb is to wait till they are a year old. Assuming he doesnt get a tummy ache from it, I suppose you could do it now. I never did the transitional way by adding milk to the formula, I just went to straight milk when that time came without any bad repercussions. It's so nice when you dont have to worry about having formula in the house anymore... now it will be milk, lol. Keep a lot on hand.

Your probably going to start at 1 year anyway. I gave my children milk at your child's age, but I did part milk, part formula over a two week period. This allowed them to adjust to the milk itself, and the taste change so it wasn't so drastic. Some children really do not like milk right away so that worked for us. If he has had dairy I am sure it is not an issue, it may be more the taste he may not care for.

You could start the transition now, but take it slow to let him get used to it. I started by mixing a small amount of milk in with my boy's formula and slowly increasing the amount over a couple of weeks.

I agree with the other moms..doing part milk part formula really made it easier for my kiddos to switch. You also have the added benefit of using warmer tap water for the formula (of course if he is already on formula) to get just the perfect temp for the bottle. I think 11 months is ok for him to have cows milk (provided he wasn't early or anything) but your doc may still recommend you formula/breastfeed (whichever you are using) until he is a year and just occassionally give him cows milk.

i started giving my girls cows milk at 11 months. But i would ease into it. Also you do not need to replace his formula with milk ounce for ounce. Once they start on milk they really just need it occasionally through out the day. They should be getting their nutrition from baby food or table food.

I started introducing it about 11 months. If he can handle dairy he'll probably be fine with cow milk. Just do a little at first to make sure he doesn't have any major reaction.

I didn't need to transition w/my son. He took to milk right away and showed no signs of any intolerance. The thing to remember tho is they need the Iron that is in Formula. So I would still give him his formula until his 1yr check up then ask your pedi to make sure you can take him off formula for good! My pedi said we could switch at 1yr, and I didn't need to give him the toddler formula that Enfamil keeps sending me coupons for! Whole milk was just fine! Then a good daily vitamin w/iron shoud be fine. But like one mom said once you switch to whole milk you only need 3 half-cup servings a day. So its alot less than formula he was getting prior to one year. And most of his nutrition should come from healthy fruits/veggies and whole-grains! Although this wasn't part of your question...keep an eye on the sodium content!

I introduced cows milk to my youngest when she was 11 mos. I started out very slow with just a little bit in a sippy cup. (She was learning to use a cup as well so she didn't get much at first.) By the time she reached 12 mos she was taking cows milk with two meals each day and had dropped a nursing time. After her b-day I started working to get her completely on cows milk and I think she was completely converted by 14 mos. Her doctor was fine with what we chose to do.
