So What Happened?

Hello moms, thanks for all of your advice. I'm sorry that I have not had an opportunity to respond before now; my computer was being serviced and I'm not a big fan for using public computers. However, I would like to apologize, it seems as though I was unclear as to why I posted my question about not wanting to give my son cow's milk. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that most baby formulas contain some trace of cow's milk, however there are some formulas that contain organic ingredients and whose cows are fed certified organic grain and hay that grow in soil not containing potentially harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers, such as Earth's Best Organic DHA & ARA, which is the formula I chose for my son. Therefore, I don't believe that the ship "already sailed." I should have explained that I was interested in an organic milk product that offered the same quality of nutrients found in Earth's Best formula that produced without the use of potentially harmful pesticides. Once again, I apologize for any misconceptions that may have occurred due to a lack of clarity.

any special reason you dont want to start him on cows milk? kids between the age of 1-3 really need that good fats it provides, and I know there are toddler formulas out there but most doctors will tell you that babies shouldnt be on formula past a year

it would be helpful if you stated why you didnt want to start him on cows milk...is it because you find drinking another animals breastmilk repulsive? just not ready for that change? afraid of allergies?still nursing and want to continue? either way no child NEEDS milk they need good sources of calcium which can be found anywhere as in your breastmilk, foods, and supplements. so no need to feed your child cows milk if that isnt what you want

If you don't want to start your on cow's milk, I heard goat's milk is good. Also if you don't mind spending the money, they have formula for toddler from 9 to 36 months.

I sounds from your subject that your baby is already on formula, and most of those are derived from cow's milk. So if its a cow's milk thing, make sure that ship hasn't already sailed. If you are nursing, well keep it up! If you are concerned about the transition, change him to toddler formula. My kids both had it for a long time after the were 1 because they didn't tolerate regular milk well in the beginning. It was expensive for me because I breastfed, so I rarely bought formula in the first year, but its cheaper than regular formula.

If you can find goat milk, that might be a good transition. It is high in fat, which little guys need and is easier to digest. My understanding is that it may be lacking a few minerals and vitamins (B16 and iron) and so you will probably want to check with your DR. If you think he can't tolerate cow milk yet, you could try soy milk, but you'll have to make sure he gets fat from other places because it is low in fat.
