❤.M.
I just left Chase due to high monthly fees (they took over my old bank).
I went to a Credit Union. I would strongly recommend a Cred Union.
I agree w/a poster regarding USAA if you qualify (was w/them for years).
I'm thinking of changing banks. I have BOA and they have extremely high fees or it seems so in the past few months. So I was just curious about other banks. Who would you recommend and why? Online banking is a must. I was thinking about Chase but I just need a little input from others. Thanks in advance!
Thank you all for your help. I'm moving my accounts to a credit union!

I prefer credit unions. They seem to take better care of you. I would not recommend Wells Fargo, they are way worse than BofA.
Go with a credit union!! You will never go back to a big bank.
Go with a credit union, they actually know your name. :)
ING direct. The best bank...
Because I am prior military, we use USAA. So if you served or your father served - look into USAA - the only place they have an office is Texas.
For local banks, we use TD bank. They are open 7 days a week. Have on-line and decent rates.
BofA is a horrible institution.
Love Chase. LOVE THEM. They are professional and we have not had any problems. Their online banking is superior.
Stay away from PNC. PNC essentially froze my husband's small business for several weeks by screwing up our account with a paperwork error. I will not go into all the gory details. But their internal organization is definitely not at the level of Chase. Their processes in the office part are really not secure, or professional. The guy who screwed up the paperwork was on vacation and they didn't have access to his files for a week until he got back. That is just not acceptable when you are a bank and those files contain the livelihood of your customers. Total nightmare for us.
Frost Bank. They are a Texas bank, have online banking, etc. They have been great for me. They have branches pretty much all over.
We're just moving away from chase because we had an issue and the woman told us, essentially, that they were "too big to give good interest rates and service." No, really. My jaw dropped. We are now going to a combo of smaller banks and credit unions. And they aren't too big to take care of the people who essentially loan them their money.
Chase. We really like the online banking part of it.
We left BOA also because of the outrageous rates. We like Wells Fargo so far! If there is one near you check it out....free online banking. Actually all the accounts we opened are free. Good luck!
HATE BOA, as do most people I know.
I use Peoples (not sure if they are in TX). Which I've had good experience with.
My daughter has an account with Wells Fargo and we use them at work. The business on-line product is good, but not great.
For personal accounts I think your better off with a credit union or smaller local bank.
I have Chase and Wells Fargo. My wife has her check direct deposited with Wells Fargo. She put her IRA in Wells Fargo. They paid a whole $.25 per year per $1000 in her IRA. It took me 8 years to talk her into transfering it out of Wells Fargo. When she did, they charged her $25 to do it. Get it? They paid her $2 per year in interest and then charged her $25 to take her money out. So by having her IRA at Wells Fargo, she paid them $7, plus all the interest they paid her so they could "manage" her money. (I put the money in a dividend paying stock and she made more money in the first 90 days than she did the entire 8 years Wells Fargo managed her money.)
The fees at Chase would be horrible, but I have a home loan with them and so their monthly fees are waived.
I haven't tried a Credit Union.
Good luck to you and yours.
Tired of all those fees????? Check out a credit union. I've been a member of of a credit union for years and am completely happy!
Capital One! No fees (maybe with direct deposit?) They were the only deal in town back in May when I had to dump Chase for too many fees on my business account. Chase also has free checking with direct deposit if you only have personal account needs.
Frost bank or a local credit union.
We use BOA for personal and our business. We also use Chase for business.
The only fees we've had from either bank have been when we wire money out or receive money in.
I use BOA mostly, free checks, interest bearing accounts ( piddly amount but it's something) free savings and everything.
Ask your banker for the best options. They don't always advertise the better accounts.
We have had Compass Bank and Frost Bank. We now are very happy with Frost Bank. They are more of a local type of bank, with being only in Texas.
Compass bank was ok. We've had a lot of Identity Theft out of checking account, especially with our debit card. They didn't monitor or alert us that there were problems. When we tried to fix it, it would take awhile to get our money back and to fill the paperwork out. Everyone was friendly there. There was plenty of locations to go to. I don't remember any fees, other than like overdraft type fee.
Frost bank is great. They really think about the customer. When we switched to them, they called us about every month or so to see how things are going and if there was anything they could do to help us and asked for our opinion. We have online banking and we don't have a debit/credit card, only a ATM card so we can take out money. Everyone is very friendly. There's usually water and cookies in the lobby. At one location they had mints, my Son loved the mints there! They have alerts, so I've got it set up so if our bank account gets low, for them to email us or contact us. If there are any high amounts, unusual amounts, then I have them contact us or email us. We didn't have a fee for a long time. I now see a fee for our checking account. We've been meaning to go in to talk about it. It is use to be a free checking account. Not sure if there is any free checking accounts left anymore or not. There is usually a Frost where ever we go or we know where the main ones are and stop to get money before we go somewhere else. I think the banks have increased fees, because of all the identity theft and fraud happening with people's money, debit/credit cards, checking accounts,etc... The banks have always reimbursed us for any fraud/theft. The banks reimburse if you or a family member didn't do it. Banks are left with paying all that and they can't go on paying everything like that forever. I think some of that is because all the fraud/theft, so they pass it on to the customer. That's my opinion, it maybe because of other reasons.
Before switching you might want to talk to a banker. I was getting a huge fee on one of my wells Fargo accounts because the accounts weren't linked right to waive the fee. They are sending me another debit card and the the charge goes away. Silly and a hassle but less than switching banks. I love the chase branch in Southlake. The others have been mostly good but some bad.
I like Frost Bank. PEOPLE actually answer the phone! They have the deposit software that lets you scan the checks you have to deposit and send them online. Pretty cool not to have to run to the bank. The employees know my name at my local branch, too.
BOA bought out Countrywide, so we are with them for our home loan. Don't like them, but am not going to refi to get away from them at this time.
Credit Unions seem to be the place to go for personal service too. I like Texas Trust because they have lots of locations to serve me while I'm out and about.
I use Woodforest National Bank. They are a small bank with minimal fees. I only pay $12 a YEAR for free checking with a debit card. They do offer online bill pay as well. I am completely against big banks. Every one of them screw their customers at one point or another. I've been using this bank for 4 years without ANY problems. When someone stole my debit card number and spent $800, I got the money back in less than a week. I love my bank. Definitely go for small, local banks or credit unions. Big banks don't deserve our hard earned money!
I have accounts at Wells Fargo and at Chase. I've had great service at both banks, and couldn't be happier with them.
