yes we changed the locks and reprogrammed the garage door remote. It seems like common sense to me.
When you bought your house, did you have the locks changed?
Thanks, everyone!! We just bought a house and a friend told me she didn't get hers changed when she bought her house. I thought that was a little odd...
Wow, maybe my friend isn't so odd! Love the variety of responses :o)

We did. We went to Lowes and bought new doorknobs. Took about 30 minutes to do front and back doors.
Yes. We have a 2 flat and we change the outside door locks. Of course, the fact that they had a double keyed deadbolt (key both sides) was a bad thing to me. What if the we needed to get out right away? And they did not give us that key.
If we were to buy a house, we would do the same. Not saying the previous owners would break in but someone else could have old copies.
Yes. Just for peace of mind.
That was the first thing we did after closing.
No, but I did change them after I kicked some folks out.
So funny to read all these "yes" answers, it never would have even occurred to me to change the locks!
No, but we bought it from friends and were not worried. We did eventually replace all the doors and got new deadbolt sets for the house, but that was years after purchase. Had we bought it from a stranger we might have done it sooner.
I don't. My mother does. We both think the other is ridiculous. ;-)
Yes. All the locks. It was the first thing we bought at Home Depot after closing.
Nope, never occurred to us. The previous owners gave us a huge bag of (mostly) labelled keys. We have 9 doors - would have been a major production. We have doors we have no idea whether we have keys to. We have keys we have no idea what if anything they fit.
Of course. The first house we purchased was used and we changed those locks asap.
We custom built the last 2 houses and had the locks re-keyed after closing.
Yes. Depending on the lockset you can sometimes just have them rekeyed by a locksmith.
I've purchased two houses two family houses and changed all sets of locks. The first order of business right after the closing and before the celebrating.
No, but we should have. Pretty sure the former owner's adult kids came and went for awhile. They never took anything but it was creepy.
Yes we changed the locks!!
An easy fix. Worth time & slight cost.
Nah. We knew the people we purchased from.
