Change in Eating Habits

Help!!!! My 6 month old has been extremely fussy the last week or so. We (the dr. and I) determined that she was teething. But, on Monday the 6th of Nov. she got her shots. Since we got home she started crawling (just because he dr. said that she would probably by pass that and go straight to walking)and she hasn't been eating her cereal and fruits or veggies. Normally she's eager to eat her solids but now i can't put her in her high chair without her getting upset. Is the fact that she's teething a cause of her change in her eating habits? Could something else be wrong? Could side effects of the shots be a cause? How long will this last? Anyone have any experience like this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

She's some what back to normal. I think her teething has subsided a bit. She sleep through the night last night. (The last couple nights she had been waking up at least 3 times because of her teething.)She seems to be a little happier today and she started eating her solids again. Not as much as she had but a little more. A little is better than nothing. She's still a happy baby. Thank you everyone for your help.

Hi, I know when my are teething they don't wont to eat hardly any thing, it can last up to 3 days or a little over a week (with my kids). I just feed them what I want them to have and if they do not eat I try aging shortly later(they will eat when they are hunger. You could try teething tablits or a suger tit. A suger tit is a wash cloth with crushed ice in it you can put suger in it, but would try it with out fist. Then you tie it off and let them have at it. Good luck if you have any more ? please ask

If all this started after her shots, maybe her highchair is uncomfortable now. Try feeding her with her on your lap, or some other alternative. Then try the chair again after the soreness is gone.
Teething was a great source of pain for my two. My son teethed all his teeth by the time he was 13 mos. My daughter took forever it seemed and drooled so much. Try to be as empathetic as possible (it's hard when you have things to do, etc.).
Best wishes.

My daughter was the same way. Teething was VERY difficult for us. We used the Hyland's teething tablets (which I bought at Randall's) and Tylenol. I try not to medicate her, but I can't imagine the pain of having multiple teeth coming in at the same time. Sometimes I would use the tablets during the day, and Tylenol or Motrin right before I put her down for bed at night or naptime. It seemed to help, but the teething lasted awhile. Of course check with your doctor if you feel in your gut that it's something more. Good Luck!

hi W. i agree with other moms. i just want to let you know about these homeopathic teething tabs. you can find them at walmart or heb. the brand is hylands. the only warning on the bottle is that your baby may fall asleep because of not having anymore pain. because we all know that is can interfere with their sleep. myself and all my mommy friends swear by them. just to let you know if you had never heard of them. good luck.

Just wanted to say I agree I swear by the teething tabs, and add that they just disolve in baby's mouth. They have them at Walmart. oh yeah and they work almost instantly. Good Luck.

Depending on where and what shots were given. If she tighten her leg muscles when the nurse gave her the shot(s) could be the reason she is so fussy. Put some warm compress on her legs and message them. Hopefully she will losen the muscles. If her crying gets worse and this technique does not work call your doctor and let them know. Maybe you can give her tylenol or Motrin. But call the doctor first.

I would say teething is the cause. My daughter was normally a very happy baby but when she started teething, she was extremely hard to deal with. Or you can have the pediatrician check your baby's ears. Alot of babies also get ear infection when they're teething. Whenever my daughter got an ear infection, she wouldn't eat because the chewing motions hurt her inner ear. I'm sure it's just the teething though.....

W.,
My daughter did the same thing after her 6mth shots and her pedi. said she was teething too. She is 8 months old now and she still gets that way if her teeth bother her. I wouldn't worry too much (i know easier said than done) but keep a watch on her because mine also gets ear infections when she is teething. Good luck!

When my children were teething we would give the a cool wet washrag to chew on. They did not eat as much, I am not sure if it was the pain or just a change in taste buds. Try a washcloth with cold water, or maybe put an apple slice in the washcloth and let her knaw on that a while. I also tried using the baby oregel. It tastes awful and will make her drool, but it will numb the gums for a while for her.
