I still get random pain and my son was born 28 months ago. My OB-GYN says it is normal because of the muscles and tendons being cut there at that I could always have pain from it. The pain I get is on the incision itself and about an inch above or below.

Yep! Unfortunately after 3 years I still feel twinges of pain when a move certain ways (not frequently, but enough that I notice it). Sorry :(

I have had 4 c sections and it is different for everyone but it is possible and normal to have some pain for several months. The scar could hurt when washed and or messed with in any way for up to a year.

I have also had two c-sections, NO that is not normal. Maybe a little numbness, but not pain! Go to your dr!

For me it was. That area was so sensitive, I couldn't stand to touch it or have my pants or underwear rub that area. A year after, I still find the incision area to be numb and irritating. If it is painful where you are concerned, have your OB check it out.

I had pain for up to a year with my first C-section. I think it was because I did not take it easy. I was always up doing something and went back to work a week early (5 weeks). I thought it was never going to go away. After my 2nd C-section I stayed at home for 8 weeks and made sure I did not do anything to hurt myself. The recovery was much faster and the pain went away before I went back to work. That was my experience. It might take some time, but I hope you feel better soon.

I have had 2 c-sections. And no, I did not have pain after 3.5 months.
Consult with your OB/GYN.

take care,

I'm 11 months out and I still have occasional pain. At 3 1/2 months I was still experiencing quite a bit of pain daily. However, during my c-section the doctor nicked a nerve which is the cause of my pain. He said it happens in less that 2% of cases, but it's something to consider. Definitely talk to your OB/GYN.

I had pain up to one year with my first C-section. It hurt when I moved quickly, twisted, or pressed on my stomach. With my second C-section, I hardly had any pain at all. It might be a good idea to check with your doctor when you can just to make sure everything is okay. Good luck to you!

The pain can be normal depending on what kind of pain you are experiencing. Sharp pain around the incision can be very common even years after a c-section. But this kind of pain should come sporadically and shouldn't interfere with your daily routine. A change of diet, hormones, or even the weather can trigger pain in an incision, so try to think about when you've been experiencing the pain. If it's too much to bear or is a chronic pain, then I would definitely speak to your doctor.

I think it depends a lot on what kind of c you had. "Bikini cut" (horizontal) or vertical? I had some twinges when I stretched or nursed (from the uterul contracting during lactation), but not truly painful. I had the horizontal cut. Vertical is a lot more invasive, and is a bigger cut through more sensitive tissue, and is used mostly for emergencies, and takes a lot longer to heal.

Hi D.,

I just wanted to clarify that I think it is normal for the incision site to feel "funny" or numb or sensitive. It's kind of a hard feeling to describe, but I wouldn't call it painful. Even more than a year after my c-section it still feels funny to the touch sometimes.

First, I would say that if it causes you concern, you should talk to your OB about it.

That being said, my last C-Section was 6 years ago (on Tuesday, in fact) and there are still odd feeling, tender and numb areas along my "rope" as I refer to it, because it feels like there is one under there. In the normal course of trying to feel slimmer and tightening those muscles to "suck it in" the incision line will sometimes cramp up terribly and then eventually relax and go back to normal - eventually being less than a minute, which can feel like an eternity sometimes.

Best wishes to you and congratulations on your 3 1/2 month old.

A strange feeling, yes...but I never had any major pain after about 2 months. There is a possibility that you have scar tissue attaching to other things. I forget what it's called...adhesions, maybe?? I had a minor problem with this but it eventually worked itself out. It's been over two years since my most recent c-section and I still have numbness and strange feelings when you touch it. I would definitely call the nurses line about your pain to see if they want you to come in.

nope. but i guess it kinda depends on the pain...where it is located, how intense on a scale or 1-10, constant or occasional, is it tied to your cycle, can you manage it w/heat or ibuprofen, etc.

I had my DD three years ago and if I hit my CC just right while reaching for the detergent above the washer, it hurts. If you feel pain for any other reason than pressing on it...I would see a Dr.

I've had 3 C-section, and had no pain after 3 or 4 weeks. Can you describe the pain? You definitely need to let your MD know
