My daughter is now in preschool(2) and having a birthday this week. The preschool lets us come in and celebrate with the class & we can bring in treats. 1) do we go in both TT and MWF classes or just pick one (she is in both groups and it is a small number so wouldn't be a big deal either way). I just don't know what is typical for this type of situation. 2) Do I take party favors for the class? I am new and just don't know these things and we are the 1st b-day of the school season.

Also, trying to be healthy I was thinking about doing fruit cut outs (with cookie cutters) has anyone tried this? Any other healthy treat suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any relies. This info. source is really helpful!!

Check with the teachers, but I would say pick one day. Also, Teachers like easy to serve treats like donut holes, cupcakes and the like. It can get a bit messy having to cut cake for an entire class is what our MDO told us. Also, check to see if any of the other kiddos have food allergies. Fruit cut outs would be very cool imo. I know my son (who's almost 5 btw) would LOVE that. Gift bags are not required. My son's been in Pre-K for 3 yrs now and no one has done this so far. So many of thse toys are chokeable and not good for the 2 yr old crowd in any case.

Birthdays at preschool are sweet and simple....believe me, you'll cause more stress for the kids and teacher if you come in with too much party stuff and disrupt the routine (especially for two year olds). That being said, just bring cupcakes or whatever you choose on the day of her birthday...I'm a little bit confused, is she in two different classes with two sets of classmates and teachers? If that is the case, then I would probably bring something small so that she could celebrate with all her little friends as each of them will most likely be celebrating at some point during the year, too. Just a thought, you could make mini chocolate chip muffins so that they are small and skip the messy frosting. Then you could also do a small bit of fruit, too. Bottom line, these school bday celebrations usually last less than 15 minutes and happen during the normal snack time so don't feel compelled to go too overboard :-)

As a preschool teacher, fruit would be great. Remember frosting is both messy and sugary, leaving the teachers with a class full of sugared up 2 year olds... Kids love the fruit just as much. Muffins are also great, cookies work well. Normally one day is fine, but you can ask the teachers. The teachers will always be happy to tell you what they prefer, and they will apperciate being asked. Party favors and decorations are usually not needed. It is a small affair usually just 15-30 minutes so setting up decorations just makes it more difficult. If you choose to do some kind of party favor, give it to the teachers to put in their take-home cubby or pass out at the end of school. Giving it to the kids at that time will be a headache for everyone. But they really aren't required. Just go, bring your treat, eat with your daughter and it'll be the best birthday she could imagine having at school.

I would check with the teachers to find out what is typical. Due to food allergies, some places are strict on what you can bring in for the kids to eat. Some places it has to be store bought and individually wrapped or still in the unopened container. Just don't plan on a big celebration. Kids like routine and a big celebration would throw it off.

we did mini-cupcakes and NO gift bags when my son turned 3. when he turned 4, we did regular size cupcakes with rings on the top and NO gift bags. The gift bag thing drives me crazy -- my son now expects one, which defeats the purpose of GIVING someone ELSE a birthday gift. :)

If you want to go a bit healthier, you could do mini-muffins. banana nut, blueberry, something like that...
