Hi.
We have two lovely 8 month old kittens that love to chew on cords. Any suggestions on what to do to prevent them from doing this or ways to deter them from the cords?
Thanks.

My kitten thought our computer cords were great! My husband got these cord covers at Home Depot- kind of looks like an old spiral phone cord, but flat. He bundled the wires inside these. Since they no longer moved easily, and are thick, our kitten now leaves them alone. Good luck!
Lisa is right. You can also get stuff at the pet store that is like a bitter tasting spray. You spray the items they are chewing they taste the stuff and stay away. Also there is a spray that smells bad to them that you can keep them out of certain areas (like behind the tv where cords are or off certain furniture). Good luck. Hope this helps:)
A cheap water bottle that you got from the dollar store will do the trick. Set the nozzle to stream, fill it with water and every time you catch them chewing spray them with it. It is a good deterent that doesn't harm them. Plus find a toy that they like (mine always like the jingle balls) and stock up on them.
Carry around a squirt bottle with water set on stream and give them a squirt them whenever they do anything they aren't supposed to. That's how I've trained all my cats!
Petsmart has a stayaway spray. It worked with my last kitten.
HI K.,
I have two young cats that do the same thing and got tired of rewiring my cell phone charger so I took a jar of Vicks vapor rub and coated the cord with it.They hate the smell and back away. Thank goodness.
K.,
Tabasco sauce and a small paint brush. Worked for my dog!
