I wouldn't go the cash route. I'd find a Catholic bookstore and pick up a few simple books, or a Rosary, small piece of jewelry, etc. The items at the bookstores are quite reasonably priced.

Call the church and ask if they have a store (not all perishes have them) or go to your own church store. They will have all kinds of gift items and not all of them are that expensive. I purchased a bible for my daughter for $10.00, no tax, it's a church. I was expecting under $30.00.

maybe instead of money you could get a nice little gift in your budget that way you dont feel bad on how much or how little you have to give! Always a nice touch!

Try going to Hallmark, they had little angel ornaments. They used to have ones with names on them - if they have a common name that would be a good gift.

The other thing is to go to Family Christian Bookstore, they have lots of gifts for occasions like this.

A gift is given from the heart. Give what you can and feel comfortable with--you can't go wrong!

I think whatever you can resonably afford. I have to comment on someones mention of 'per plate' - that is assuming all people have a big banquet for First Communions. My husbands side of the family is one of those - big Italian family - about 200 people there (people you ONLY see at weddings, funerals, and apparently First Communions) - the thing looked like a wedding reception and was wayyyyy extravagant in my opinion.
In my family the First Communion would not be a huge party like that - maybe immediate family members in the backyard BBQing.

I think you should gift for the occassion, not what the family decided was an appropriate party.

That being said - Childrens Bible; Veggie Tales; books, etc.

I like the idea of a Catholic/Christian bookstore gift. Maybe a picture frame that says, "My 1st Holy Communion".

We used to do savings bonds. so paid $25 for a $50 bond. our bank doesn't sell them anymore so now we just put the $25 in a card. rosaries etc are nice. but most second graders get them in class so we skip that.

$100.00 if two people attending.. think about per person a plate...
$50.00 one person. Depending on how close are you to the child?
Are u the aunt the godfather? etc.

Rosaries are always nice. Definitely a card or a prayer card. Maybe even a children's bible. Even a small donation to the Church in his name would be thoughtful.

I agree with the others --- give a small gift that is thoughtful and something you can afford. This way you will feel good about it and so will the child and their family.
