i just bought my son a winter coat a couple of weeks ago. my two boys were with thier dad this weekend and thier cat peed on his jacket and shoes. i scrubed them with baking soda and washed them both... many times. the smell will not come out! last night i didn't notice before he left to his dad's he grabbed that coat and the teacher just called me and told me that his coat and his shirt smells of cat pee and i had to bring him clean clothes. what can i use to get the smell out. the coat is only a couple of weeks old i hate to just throw it away!

I use white vinager in the wash and it takes the order out. There is no need to throw the coat out because white vinager is inexpencive and works very well.
My cat has peed on my bed - more than once - my husband won't let me find a new home for it - anyway - the ONLY thing that I have found to take the smell out is to wash it in the washing machine but instead of detergent, use pet carpet cleaner, liquid form. You can buy it for carpet shampooers and it comes in big bottles. They even have a Walmart brand that is a lot cheaper than the Hoover brand. Hope it works!!
Soak/wash it in vinegar. A LOT of vinegar. I use probably a 3-1 or even 2-1 ratio of water to vinegar.
Maybe have it laundered at a dry cleaners?? My dog has had an accident before on our bed spread. I took it to the cleaners and they did a great job. I couldn't smell anything at all.
Is it machine washable? You could try something like Oxyclean.

You might try either soaking it in vinegar and then washing it. If the coat is not washable then scrub it by hand. I know that vinegar neutralizes the cat pee smell in carpets but I've never tried it on clothing.
I have two cats and a dog and if something like happens i use amonoia (? spell) it works the best.. just pour some in the washer with it..
My suggestion would be for you to soak the coat in Vinager and warm water. Let it soak overnight and then toss the coat into the washer and wash with your normal detergent and with baking soda to neutralize it. Don't put into the dryer that will only set the smell into the coat if you didn't get it out.
If this doesn't work for the coat then I would suggest going to a pet store and explain the situation as their are products that will remove urine smells from clothing ect.

I had this problem when my cat peed on my best dress pants when we went to the cabin for the weekend. What I did was I filled the washer up and added the pants and a cup of vinager to the washer and let it soak overnight. Then I washed it without soap the next day. After that, I then washed it in laundry soap to remove the vinager smell and then presto -- NO MORE CAT PEE!! Good luck
If vinegar doesn't work, spray the coat and shoes with a cheap product called Totally Toddler found in the baby aisle at Wal-mart. Let the coat sit for awhile then wash as normal. You can leave it on the shoes. Totally Toddler also gets odors and stains out of carpet, and has "natural enzymes" which by the way, is just isopropyl alcohol. If you can't find it in the store, you can make your own. In a squirt bottle, mix mostly isopropyl alcohol, a little water, and a small squirt of Dawn dish soap. Good Luck!
Soak it in white vinegar and then wash it in bleach. I know that bleach isn't good for colors but this is simple chemistry. Cat urine is a base you need an acid to conteract and neutralize all this. Both vinegar and bleach are good acids. Vinegar will help alot. Then just doing the wash with a cup of bleach will do the rest. Will the colors fade. Yes... But it won't ruin it if you do it just as you would with whites. put a cup of bleach and soap in, fill the washing machine with water, then put in the clothes. Walla that should do the job. If it doesn't I'm sorry to say toss the coat.
Oh and yes I've done this before when my son sat in cat pee at a friends house and it worked.
I know this was said already, but I wanted to say that white vinegar is what we use as well.

Go to the pet store and get some of the cleaner to use on the carpets that has an enzime in it. Most of them have diretions to use the cleaner on laundry. We've used that on clothes before when our cat was having litterbox issues and it works wonders.

We had a problem with our kitty (she had a bladder infection) and I was able to get the odor out with white vinegar solution. It helps neutralize the urine. There is also a urine neutralizer that can be purchased - can't remember the name of it but it is available on the asseenontv.com site. I've not tried it. But try the white vinegar. You can add it to your washer too. Our cat went on towels, jeans, anything that felt comfortable when she had the problem. Poor thing - we didn't know she was sick. A visit to the vet cleared up her problem and ours.

Walk into any PetMart or PetCo equivalent and they'll have something you can use. Just walk up to the desk and tell them you're problem and they'll hook you up. Otherwise, I used to use vinegar to deoderize urine spots on my floors when our cat stayed inside.
I would have to say use nature's miracle I was amazed how well it took away the order. We had a problem with our dog wetting on our spare bed when company would leave. We soaked the mattress in nature's miracle and there is no trace of a smell. It even worked when my dog was sprayed with a skunk, I figure if it can get out that horrible smell then it should work on anything! Good luck to you-
Throw it in the washer with 2 cups of vinegar and HOT water. Let it soak for about an hour, then let the washer continue. Rewash with detergent in warm water and the smell should be gone.
Try to soak it in diluted vinegar for a few hours in the washer. Vinegar has saved my carpet a couple times when the litter box hadn't been scooped to my cats' liking. I was also told that peroxide and a small amount of dish liquid in some water will eliminate the smell.

Throw it out! You may think that you have gotten the smell out but that cat will alway's beable to smell it and continue spraying. Have his Dad buy him a new coat and save your money rather then wasting it on a bunch of cleaning product's. And if you have a cat yourself or ever get one they will be able to smell it and start the process all over at your house. Good luck!
You were wise to begin with baking soda, that is good for odors. I have had good luck with vinegar added to the wash cycle. Try soaking the clothes in baking soda and vinegar. You might also talk to you ex-husband about the problem he is having with his cat.
Wash the coat and shirt in vinegar and water, then wash in the washing machine as usual. This works great on mattresses also.
In all honesty, you may have to purchase new. I am working on getting that smell out of some carpet. We had to put the cat down. Also, if those items go back to the other parent and the cat is still there, it is very likely it'll happen again :( I have used a product called "Unique" that I got at the pet store. It has some active bacteria in it to help break down the smell, etc. Can be used as you mix it. Smells very clean. It was $15 for the bottle for around 24 oz or something like that.

Just wanted to let you know that your SCOE 10X worked beautifully on some clothing that was found in the bottom of a closet with cat urine on it. It had been there for some time. We washed and dried the clothes many times but the smell still remained. Then I got your SCOE 10X and soaked all the pieces with it. I let them soak overnight. Then I washed them and amazingly the odor was gone! Thank you for this great product!
