Cat Has Peed 20X or So on Our EXPENSIVE Leather Sofa! Toss? or Clean?

Is it even possible to get cat pee of that magnitude out of furniture? I took the cushions off and unzipped them and sprayed the stuffing with enzyme cleaner (I actually soaked them in the tub with GALLONS of enzyme cleaner), did the same with the leather cushions, and then poured a few bottles of enzyme cleaner on the sofa where the cushions usually cover, hoping it would saturate all the areas the cat had peed.

Then I put it all back together after everything had dried, and I can STILL smell faint cat pee odor! It's a luxurious, beautiful, and expensive sofa that is oh so comfy, but I cannot bear to sit on it at all while it has the remnants of cat pee smell!

Is there ANY way to salvage the sofa, or do I toss it? I'd be embarrassed to donate it, unless it went to a little old lady whose sense of smell was shot! :-P

What can I do next?

I would call the furniture store (or any furniture store) and see what they advise.

You may try setting the inside of the cushions it out in the hot sun for a few days and see if that helps? A little fresh air might help. I know that smell and it is horrible!

I work for Fiber-Seal here in the metroplex, and my professional advice is to replace the cushion with a brand-new one. Contact the manufacturer with the model number/type of sofa, and they should be able to mail you a new one for a nominal fee. The leather, if pigmented, should be fine with a good pet odor deodorizer from a pet store.

More than likely, the smell has embedded itself in the cushions, and those foam pockets are just too many and too tiny to allow all of the urine crystals to go away.

If you would like me to take a look at it to see if there would be anything else that our company could do, please give me a call at ###-###-####. Good luck!

The cat or the sofa?? I think it depends... do you still have the cat? It sounds like it may have some issues and getting a new sofa may just mean a new place for your cat to pee. :( Have you spoken to the vet?

I dont' know about leather. I know that urine is sometimes used to cure leather. Check with a high end leather furniture store to see if they know who to send it to. Most likely, it won't be cheap but may still be cheaper than a new sofa. My mom had a cat who did this but it was a fabric sofa and was cleaned. She still has it and it smells ok but she had to get new cushions if I recall.
