Casting Call Concerns

Hello, I got an invitation to bring my child in for a casting call. HOWEVER, the email and a subsequent email notification were riddled with typos. It was sent from the agency/blogger. When I posted my concern on the blog, it was deleted. I checked back to see if there was a response, and typed another asking why it was deleted, then my question populated "waiting for moderation" Red flag, right??!!! I am going to call the company tomorrow morning to verify because I'm leery and on the fence about participating. What are your experiences with calls? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who answered the questions and especially those with experience. I actually reported the person's email to the SHOE company they claim to represent. Again thank you. I feel informed because of you.

Anthony, the email campaign was obviously targeted towards naive [about the casting calls procedures/protocols] parents such as myself. I'm sure many have been scammed and I am thankful to get the appropriate responses to this question.

RUN, don't walk away.

These people prey on people who want their kids in modeling, etc.

Stay with legit companies/agencies. I've modeled since childhood.... It takes patience and hard work. Nothing is handed to you.

If you have registered your email with a casting company, you can get email notifications. These however are from the agency doing the casting, not from the modeling/acting agency. There are tons of open castings that you can take your child to if your interested in persuing it. I will tell you, that from my personal experiece, they are mostly a waste of time. My son has done various modeling and acting jobs, the majority of these where not through an open casting. He was booked directly through his modeling agency. The casting calls are hundreds of kids in a room and you wait forever. They may call back 2 or 3 kids for a second casting before they pick the one child. It's much like the lottery, at leaste for the modeling jobs. If your truely interested in pursuing modeling, find a reputable agency and be prepared to be available with close to no notice. If you do go to an open casting, bring lots of stuff/snacks to entertain your child and be prepared to wait for your 60 seconds. We have had good luck with our agency, but do your research before you sign with anyone. Good luck.

My son has been contacted by several agencies, none of them has ever contacted him by email, it has always been a person who provides his information and gives an infomation package for the parent. Please be careful, sounds like a scam

Stay away from them, they are scams and they want a lot of money, promise you everything and you get nothing. If you want your child in acting get an agent.

Check the agency out by running it's name thru google on the Internet. It's surprising what you can learn by doing this.

I received a recorded phone message asking for help in locating my ex son-in-law. The recording gave the name of a private person and not a company. I googled the person's name and google came back with information for a collection agency. Many people had said that they returned the call and learned that the company was cut throat and most often attempting to collect old debt and even debt that had been cancelled by bankruptcy.

Google any name that you have and see what you can find. I also suggest that you check with the Better Business Bureau.

I've never known a casting call by email. Usually they are set up by phone with a live person and are very professional. They usually require some sort of head shots and basic info before a casting call is even made.

I've gone through head shots before for selecting children/adults for commercials and we've never done it by email. I'd be very wary, probably a scam.
