Hey A. if you are anywhere near B'ham AL I have 2 infant car seats for sell I am selling them for 10$ a piece. They are in really good conditon. I do not drive and do not get out very much so I only used them when I was with other people. Plus I had 2 so they look brand new. I have pics of them if you are interested.

We got the carseats that stay as the child gets older and not the one where you take it out of the car and leave the baby in the carseat. You get used to keeping the baby in the carseat and I really can say that my twins (so realize the difficulty of getting two babies in and out of the carseats) developed so much better because I didn't have them in the carseats all the time. They seemed very comfy in the carseats we had for them. Their heads will also grow much better and you will not have as much difficulty with having a flat spot. We slept the babies on their tummies every night, so we never worried about that anyway. If you buy one carseat and keep it for as long as you can, the baby will stay used to one seat too. It's nice to give them continuity in some areas. S.

Hi A.
I would get the one with the base. It is easier to take them out for dinner, grocery store, pretty much anywhere you will find yourself. You can also get another base to put in another car which is great. Congraulations!!!!

I have 16 month old twins and with my experience the car seats with the base that stays in the car are sooo convenient. You can just clip and grab and go. The baby will only be in the infant car seat like that for one year or until 20lbs, and they make the transitional car seats that you can use after the first year so you dont have to go bye another car seat. I still think the clip grab and go is sooo much easier.

Although it is easier with the detachable base to be able to leave the baby in the seat and take with you when you get out of the car, I'm now having to shop for a convertable seat because Brittany at 5 1/2 months is too long. So if you or your husband is tall, you may have to shop for a new seat sooner than you think.

CONGRATS MAMA!!!!!! I am a mother of 2. 10 and 5. With both I used the seats with a base and loved them. I am a small woman, so It was much better for me. With my son, I also purchased the carseat that attached to the stroller. BEST invention ever. It is true, they don't stay in these car seats very long but, I had no problem with the transition and I would do it the exact same way. Although, no chance of that happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with your new little gift. God Bless you all!

The ones that can come undone are so HEAVY once you get the baby in it! I'd recommend one that would be able to be used up to toddler sized, since you are on a budget. I also recommend calling this number after you get the car seat in your car.
Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians can help you. If you have more questions about installing your car safety seat, a certified CPS Technician may be able to help. A list of certified CPS Technicians is available by state or ZIP code on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Web site at www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/contacts/. A list of inspection stations- where you can go for help with installation-is available in both English and Spanish at www.seatcheck.org or toll-free at 866/SEATCHECK (866/732-8243).
You can also get this information by calling the toll-free NHTSA Auto Safety Hot Line at 888/DASH-2-DOT (888/327-4236), from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm ET, Monday through Friday.

I had the infant carrier for my first 2 and it is great for attaching to the stroller but on a budget with our 3rd we went with the convertible so that we would not have to buy another one when he got big enough.

I agree with some of the others about the one with a base that you take out of the car and take into the store with you. It is wonderful. I know that your baby will be left in the seat, but it is easy to do this while going to the grocery store walmart etc. Especially if you go by yourself. Face it most of our trips out when the baby is really small is as quick as possible. So your baby fell asleep in the car in stead of waking her up just get the carseat off the base and take it in with you it hooks right on the cart. Once she outgrows it which is 20lbs the bigger seat is better. We got one of each. I am still using the one with the base and my son is almost 5 months old. Good luck and congrats

It is all about you really. You need to ask yourself what you want to do. Do you want to be able to carry our baby and move her around easily or would you rather take her out of the car and use other ways to get her around. Your lifestyle will play a big part in what you buy for your baby many times :)

In my opinion I like to carry my babies around so a sling is great. That being said a carseat that does through all stages would be a smart buy.

Good Luck and Congratulations

The carseats that have a base that stay with the car are great when they are infants. The baby sleeps all the time anyway and then you don't have to worry about draging them in and out of the car while they are floppy. It was great for me. I also got the one that had 2 bases so we could leave one in each car. moving a carseat or the base is not an easy job. That means that you will have to buy another car seat when the baby out grows the infant seat, but I think it is worth it.

On a second note you can take the carseat to the Fire Station and they will show you how to put it in and put it in for you.

The carseats that snap out of the base are so convenient. You can bring the whole thing into the store with you and put it into a grocery cart when they're too little to sit up in the cart themselves. Or you can bring the carseat with you into restaurants when they're too little for a highchair. This keeps your hand free to eat while baby plays or sleeps.

But if you're saving money by getting the convertible carseat to begin with, you can always use a sling to carry your baby around in stores and restaurants. This is especially good if your nursing. The one inconvenience is that a sleeping baby will almost always wake up when being transferred from car to sling.

As for the stroller that the carseat snaps into, we barely ever used ours, so that for me was a waste of money. Good luck with your new baby!
