M.K.
I used the Baby Safe Feeders with both my kids and the mesh netting does have a somewhat limited life span! Immediately after using, I would turn it inside out and scrub it with a brush, while rinsing. Scrubbing would get the food pieces out -- even the stubborn banana. To help dry and eliminate mildew issues, I would shake it vigorously to get as much water out as I could and then I would place it in the microwave (while damp) for about 15 seconds. Be careful removing -- it will be very hot.
Even with the scrubbing and washing, they will discolor and look very, very used. At that point, I would toss and replace.
I tried the dishwasher once and it gave me the worst results.
