I used Febreze® Extra Strength Pet Odor Eliminator Carpet on my gray living room carpet and it stained them white!!! I now have large white marks all over my carpet!! I am not happy as this is the first time this has ever happened with a odor eliminator. It also turned my black area rugs white. Not happy at all!!! I tried washing the areas with water and resolve carpet cleaner, no luck:( How can I get these stains out?
The bottle did not say to check a small area for color fasting.
I just checked the reviews also and found many stained carpet complaints!
All this for a $2.00 bottle of odor eliminator...
White residue might be able to be removed by using a good carpet cleaning machine or hiring a professional service. If the odor eliminator has bleached the fibers of the carpet then you're stuck with it.
I looked up some product reviews and there are multiple instances of damage to carpets. :-(
If the color of the carpet has been removed - they aren't stained so much as they are bleached.
These cleaners usually come with a warning to always test an inconspicuous spot first before using.
Maybe a sharpee marker can help dye your black rug back to black.
Grey will be harder to fix.

I used carpet stain remover (may have been stain away or resolve) and same thing happened. I tried a small spot first. Our carpets were off white so not as noticeable.
Sadly, they are probably bleached. Do you have wood underneath, by chance? You could remove the carpeting and enjoy wood floors. Otherwise, you're probably going to have to replace it.

From now on use Resolve. I swear by it. Nothing you can do now unfortunately. Probably had bleach in it.

I use the aerosol Zep from Home Depot for less than $4 a can. I spray it, blot, and after I blot (a lot) I use WHITE paper towels on top of it, place an iron on it and steam the stain out.
I have been able to get red wine, dog vomit and other accidents out of my almost white carpet.
You might call a pro and see if they can do something but it sounds like the color has been removed.
My cousin had very good quality carpet but it was older, dated in color. So she called a carpet place about getting new carpet. The man asked her what she was wanting and she really just wanted carpet like she had but a better color.
The carpet guy told her that many people are opting to just dye their carpets instead of getting new if the old carpet is still in good condition. She went with it and got her beige carpets dyed a darker beige. It looks new and modern now.
I don't know if this will work for you but it's worth researching.
I'm sorry this bleached the color out of your carpet. I'd be worried about it deteriorating the fibers too.
If it lifted the color out you can't really do anything about it. If you have extra carpet from when it was installed you can cut out and patch in a new piece. Always check any product in a discreet area before applying to your carpet, always.
