Carpet Cleaning Recommendations?

My husband, son and I have just moved and are very happy, with one small problem. We all prefer to go barefoot in the home, and our feet get unnaturally dirty here. We think it is because the carpeting in the living room, which is rather old, has some kind of residue that causes our feet to pick up dirt more than usual (the rest of the house is hardwood or linoleum, and those floors feel normal). The carpet feels a little oily. We have vacuumed repeatedly, which hasn't really helped.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm interested in both do-it-yourself solutions, and any recommendations for a professional cleaning service that serves Roscoe Village. We love our new home, but the dirty feet will drive us crazy. Thanks.

I also used Steve from Action Cleaners and he was awesome. Very respectful, friendly, did a thorough job, and was reasonable. His number is listed in the 'carpet cleaning' tab under "local business reviews"

We just used Good Guys Carpet Cleaning (located in Chicago) and were extremely pleased. They use all child and pet-friendly solutions and were a pleasure to work with. The owner herself as well as her daughter (who is also part-owner) came out to clean the carpets of our newly purchased house.

I love "The Good Guys" too. They've done our home for years. Carolyn Cox, who owns the company, is terrific as are her kids.

Hi.
I suggest buying a product called Capture. It's a dry carpet cleaner. It's a powder (you use a spray/pre-mist first), then sprinkle on the powder, brush it in, let dry, vaccuum up. it's EASY and works WONDERS! Great for overall room cleaning (like you need) and also works well on spot stains (and child vomit, pet accidents, red juice, red wine, etc)... it's really great stuff.. You can get at Sears for sure... Also, probably Menards, Lowes, Home Depot. It comes in a box kit.. Honestly.. try this before hiring any company to come clean it.... Box is about $30....

Also - completely safe around kids, babies, pets, etc.. NON-TOXIC...

Good luck

You could look into the cleaners from melaleuca (I am a consultant if you want to order through me) Their carpet cleaner is awesome and toxin free. It got out a ton of stains in our carpeting when we moved 4 years ago. I also didn't have to worry about picking up toxic fumes and residues like you are describing to be in your carpets. Please let me know if I can help. ###-###-####
