Hi moms----I have a friend whose mother has old age dementia and who came to live with her just last week after being at her brother's house for a year. Unfortunately, the caregiver that she had hired has to go back to Mexico due to an illness in the family. My friend is in desperate need of a Spanish speaking live in. Her mom sleeps until 1pm and my friend, who works early morning hours, is home most days by 1pm so she really needs someone who can be there just in case her mother needs assistance and to take care of her mom on certain evenings. Does any one know of someone who might be interested or an agency that might be able to help?

What can I do next?

I know of a service that could help. It's called Home Instead Senior Care. The one I know of is owned by Gianna Loftis. You can give them a call at ###-###-####. They do have Spanish-speaking helpers. Hope this helps!

Where does your friend live? I have a neighbor whose mom sat with a needy lady for many years. The lady died about a year ago and the mom has been working a few part time jobs since then. She speaks mostly spanish and has the heart of an angel! I emailed my neighbor to see if her mom maybe interested, but thought it might help if she knew the city first.

Check with APlaceForMom.com. I know they help find placement in assisted living/nursing care facilities (that's what we used it for) but they might be able to help find in-home elder care too. Best of all, it is totally free. We used it to find a place for my husband's grandmother who had alzheimer's - we were given recommendations of 6 or 8 local facilities, and put in contact with someone who would answer our emails personally and passed along any articles she saw relating to elder care that she thought might be helpful to us. Amazing service for something that is free!

A Place For Mom is a great starting place. I would also try calling the Alzheimer's Association as I suspect they would have lists of caregivers. She might even be eligible for some respite money from the Alzheimer's Association. Please tell us the city and we can maybe help you find more resources to help your friend.
