Card Hoarding

Yes, I mean the ones sent in the mail (a hot topic on here!). Today I was rifling through my paperwork and found a folder that contained cards from years ago.

Birthday cards from my sister and her family, my inlaws, friends, etc. I also tend to hang on to cards that have pictures of kids. And all the cards, DH has given me.

Any other "card hoarders" out there?

What can I do next?

I don't think that falls under the "hoarding" category. I save cards, and when I'm down, I take them out and take a stroll down memory lane. Same with pictures taken over the years.

I kept all of the cards I got at my wedding or bridal shower, as well as the cards we got for my kids' birth, baptism, or baby shower. Christmas cards I keep for just the season, and then, I've been cutting them up to make into gift tags for the following year's gifts.

I don't throw out cards with family pics on them. I just keep them in a separate shoebox. I'm sure I will love looking at them as the years go by. I also keep anything that has a particularly poignant or sentimental message--ESPECIALLY if it was hand-written. Everything else gets recycled after a few days. I have a fear of becoming a hoarder.

I wouldn't say "hoarder" persay, but yes, I have a shoe box of cards that have special meaning to me. Anniversary cards from my DH, even cards from when my son was born I have in there.

I like to look through them from time to time, to re-read the nice things people have written to me.
Makes me feel good and it's nice to reminisce.

I save cards from special people. My dad died 7 years ago, and I am so glad that I have the cards that he gave me through the years. It's comforting to me to be able to go back and read what he wrote, and see his handwriting.

I always keep the special cards, especially if they have a loving note enclosed. I have MANY cards that my special grandmother sent me through the years...it is so funny to go back and read her loving and sincerely concerned sentiments during my college and single years! She has been gone only a year, and those cards are so significant to me now. I also keep a scrap book of holiday cards, especially the photo cards. It is so much fun to look at how at the growing kiddos from year to year. Make something of your collection, then it is a hobby..not hoarding.

I save cards from hubby and special cards from the kids (not all but ones that are especially cute hand made types.) Christmas cards I save for two things: we make gift tags out of them but we also make flat christmas ornaments out of them and ship them with drawn trees to soldiers so they can have their own "trees". They have been wildly popular, chaplains have specifically asked for them on board ships.

I tend to keep the ones that are really special. A lot of cards are usually just signed by the people's names, or they write a letter separately. Unless the card is special or really cute and I just love the actual card... I get rid of them or re-purpose them in a craft somehow.
