Car Seats & Taxi's- How Does This Work?

I'm needing to take a cab to Edina but am not sure what to do about a car seat for my son. Are there cab companies that provide a car seat, or how does this work?

So What Happened?

Much thanks to everyone who responded to my request- All of the input really helped!

We ended up taking a bus to a mid-point and meeting my friend there. Everything I heard was helpful in that it let me know that a taxi wasn't going to be a great option for us. Not the news I'd been hoping for, but useful as it saved me a whole lot of potentially wasted time.

My thanks again-

M.

I know by law you donot have to have a carseat in a taxi, bus, airplane, or limo but of course I would definately recommend it.I've never heard of any of the above having carseats available but you could call ahead and maybe ask or make a request sometimes it's just easier to bring your own.

There is one I remember we tried to use to take to the airport with our son. Can't remember the company off hand but their ad in the phone book mentioned they have car seats (no charge for it). Be warned, even though made it clear to the person taking our reservation we needed a car seat they didn't show up with one. We had to pull ours out and install it. Good luck.

You can try Town Taxi and request a carseat. Since they provide medical transportation, they are likely to have cabs that have them for your use.

Hello,

You will just need to take your car seat with you. You could check with the cab company but I am pretty sure they don't provide child seats.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

I have had to take my own carseat and install it in the taxi for the ride. I don't know if there are any company's that already have carseats. It worked fine to use my own.

Whenever I have taken a cab (several times to airport, and traveling in D.C.), I have brought my own car seat. I feel that it would be safer to bring your own, even if there are cab's that may provide them. With your own car seat, at least you know that it is installed correctly and is safe. Cab drivers don't seem to mind you taking a few minutes to install the seat.
