from what i have learned from my friend who has a 4 year old she put her son into a booster right after the front face car seat.
My son is 3 yrs old now, when does he go from car seat to booster seat? Is there anything in between?

Hi J.!
In Arizona, your child must be over 4o pounds to ride just in a booster seat. If they are under 40 pounds they need to be in a front facing seat with a 5 point strap.

I hope this info helps!

I asked my pediatrician and she recommended we wait until my son is 40 pounds AND 5 years old, not just 40 pounds. They also said they do not recommend the backless boosters, but prefer the ones that do have a full back to them. Hope this helps.

My husband and many other family/friends work for the fire department and they all say that children should remain in car seats until they have turned 5 years of age. From ages 5 until they reach a height of 4' 9" they should be in a booster seat. There is a rule of 8yrs and 80 lbs, but they are now saying that anyone under 4' 9" is too short for the shoulder belts to properly work in an accident. Out daughter is 8 1/2 and still rides in a booster seat.
I have a 3 yr old with an almost 1 yr old, & we're in the process of switching our 3 yr old to a booster seat so our 1 yr old can use the car seat. They make booster seats with removeable backs that are around $50 at Target. I haven't gotten a chance to look at prices at Walmart yet, but I already have my 3 yr old in a backless booster when she goes in Daddy's car. Check the pound limit on the booster seat - some start at 40 lbs, some start at 30 lbs. And you may want to check the law in your state (your pediatrician should know).
Hi, I got this from a friend – watch this video before you move your son into a booster – this is a tragic reminder that 5-point car seats should be used for our kids until they weigh 80 lbs.
