Can anyone recommend a good infant car seat that will securely latch on to a grocery shopping cart? My current one does NOT and it makes shopping a pain.
My car seat also did not latch to a grocery cart which did make shopping a pain! Having said that, I read many reviews that said it was not safe for any seats to be hooked onto carts as they have tipped over or come off completely. So... I guess it's up to you if it's worth it or not. I did envy those that had the extra room but felt better knowing my child was safe.

I have one from baby trends. it attatches to every cart!! there are slits that hold the seat secerly to cart, it also has a stroller where the tray folds down to holes for the car seat to fit in. I am using this with baby number 3 and love it!!

Can't help you with the car seat, but I can recommend a sling. I love mine, I tried our car seat my first time out alone with our 10 week old. Before I left the store I had him out of the car seat and in the sling. I love it! I use it all the time even at home. The brand I have is jelly bean. I bought it at Burlington Coat Factory (on line). It can hold up to 35 lbs, and I can carry him 5 different ways as he gets older. I wish I had, had one of these when my oldest was a baby. Plus my son loves being carried in it.

My experience has been that it depends more on the grocery cart than the car seat. I have a Graco Safe Seat that latches in to some carts and not others. Sometimes the car seat seems really reclined to latch in and other times it seems too far forward. Good luck.

We had the Graco Snugride and it latched on to most carts. Not all though... so it really depends on where you're shopping. If I remember correctly, it didn't latch onto the Target carts oor Babies R Us. If it didn't latch I just put her seat down in the big part of the cart instead of up top.

my experience with car seats that latched to the carts. I didn't latch them on anyway because it would make the seat sit up too far and the baby would not be comfortable. It leaned forward more than the correct position in the car so it was almost to where the baby was nearly falling out of it and would have if not strapped in tight. Not to mention how hard it was to get the carseat off the cart and usually had to take the baby out and lay him in the seat of the car to get that carseat off the cart. I just set the carseat on the cart without latching it on and stayed close to the cart at all times so no one would bump it off.
Maybe the new carseats are better for this, The ones I had were 13 years ago and I know they continue to improve baby products.

I have an Evenflo, and it works well. In my experience Graco, doesn't seem to work too well for that.

It's actually recomended not to put a car seat in the shopping cart...I even read a report saying it is dangerous to use the carts with the baby seat attached to it. I don't remember the reasons and I see TONS of people using the carts in this manner but I never have.
I used a baby carrier until my children were big enough to sit in the cart with their legs through the little leg areas. I used a cart cover and used the 'seatbelt' that came with it. When I was just going to the store for a few things, I would place the car seat in the actual cart and use the 'sitting' area for my stuff.
At one time, my daughter who was 2 when my son was born would ride in the 'sitting' area and my son was in his car seat in the other portion of the cart, and my husband had a cart of groceries and stuff.
Good luck figuring out what works best for you.

I would also recommend a sling. Check the Maya Wrap website, but if you decide to get one, let me know. I know a gal that makes them to order for $35. It takes a little practice, but leaves your hands free, isn't as heavy as the car seat, and baby will stay calmer for longer. A great website for more info is http://www.askdrsears.com/html/5/t051100.asp.
Great for nursing and fussy babies.

I agree with those who say it's the carts, not the infant carrier. Depending on where I was shopping, the carrier fit sometimes and didn't others. I also agree with those who say it's not as safe to have it on there anyway; when the carrier didn't fit on the front seat of the cart, I put the carrier in the basket and just put groceries around it. Obviously, you can't get a ton of stuff that way, though. Good luck!

The Graco Snugride latches on pretty well. There is a catch toward the back part of the seat, but when you latch it into the cart, it reclines pretty far. Worked out fine for us until our son got older and wanted to sit upright more so he could see.

I have to recommend a sling or other soft carrier as well. It's much lighter and in my experience keeps your little one much happier during the shopping. I personally use a ring sling or a mei tai for shopping, but I have some friends that use wraps or the soft structured carries like the baby bjorn. It comes down to personal preference. I lugged the car seat around for a few months, but when I discovered the ring sling I was happy to leave the car seat in the car.

We have Baby Trend infant seats for our twins, and I haven't had any trouble latching them to normal sized shopping carts. I don't like how they latch to the small shopping carts (like the kind they have at Michael's), but at least for places you do your everyday shopping they work just fine. I also love the triangular shaped handles...makes carrying much easier.

Im not sure if all do, but mine that came with a base that stays in the car is a graco-pedic and it attaches well. You might look for car seats with bases that stay in the car.

Hi R.,
I have an Eddie Bauer system that I am selling, but after reading that they can be hazardous on carts I am worried. Therefore Please check the safety issue out, and I will as well before making the decision to add another to your household.
The Eddie Bauer seat clamped onto the cart, just like it clamps into the car carrier and stroller. It clamped onto every store cart I used.
I also have a friend that sells hand-made slings, that makes shopping a much freeing and safer experience. Contact me if you want more information.
