We are traveling to Anaheim to visit my husband's brother in June and I don't know the car seat/ booster seat laws in CA. Here in IL my daughter sits in a booster seat, but we will be renting a car in CA and I need to know what kind of child restraint I will need in CA. My daughter is 4 years old, 42 inches tall, and weights about 40 pounds. Thanks for the help in advance!

What can I do next?

We live in southern CA, and we use booster seats for both our kids. Just bring your daughter's booster seat with you and make sure she's in the back seat with a lap and shoulder belt, and she'll be fine.

I you're comfortable with her in a booster (which obviously you are because she rides in one at home) that will be fine in CA. The law requires that they be in some age appropriate seat until 6 and 60 lbs.
