I need advice on where to go to get my A/C compressor replaced. I went to Meineke and they said it would have to be replaced for $900. I can't afford that. Does anyone know if a good car repair shop that won't rip me off and do a good job fixing my car? I need A/C in this Texas heat esp with my kids.
We went with a repair guy my sister-in-law recommended for the A/C but did use WorldTech for our 100K mile maintenance. The guys there were very kind, priced reasonably, and fast. I am grateful for all the advice that was given. Thank you again ladies. You are lifesavers.

Without knowing the make or model of your vehicle it's hard to say if that's a bad price or not. Also, no way to know if you truly need the A/C compressor replaced or not. There's a new Firestone on FM 544 in Wylie...about halfway between McCreary and Country Club. I know they won't rip you off (my husband Brian is a diagnostic tech there...but he's off work today.) we have been taking our car (so have all of my in-laws and several friends) to a mechanic in rowlett for years. he recently moved from garland to rowlett. he is A. honest, great mechanic and cheap. i would never take my car to anyone else in a million years. his name is costel and his number is ###-###-####.
sometimes he is slow at returning calls because his shop gets so busy. i know he has saved my family and friends thousands in repairs.
I wish I could give you specifics, but there are a lot of little car repair shops around the old downtown Garland area. When we lived in Garland, we frequented those shops because it saved us money, and they did a good job. They would even work with us on the price.
Just look in your garland phonebook. You will notice the small ones! And ask if they offer a guarantee, or money back... all that stuff.
Trust the little guys! Most of them are just trying to get by, and actually love what they do.

Seriously a/c work under a grand will be hard to beat for compressor replacement. Remember you get what you pay for.
Consider this replace the compressor your self, then drop off your car to a shop & have them purge the system & recharge the lines, you might be able to save three or four hundred dollars.

This shop is not in Garland but they did a very good job on my air conditioner and were very reasonable in their rates. It is Allen Automotive on Ash Street in Allen.
I had gotten estimates from other companies in the 500-700 range. They fixed it for around 100.00.
