My daughter hates the car too! Everyone says she'll outgrow it...until then though I "jiggle" her car seat back and forth while I drive (gently). I also bought a "silly songs" cd and sing it to her. It helps....but isn't an error free thing. It doesn't always work...Good luck to us both that they'll outgrow it soon!

Mine too. And my friend's daughter did the same thing. The sweaty head thing freaked me out at first. But, it was just from all the crying. I don't have a solution for you. But he did outgrow it once he was about 6 months. Just wanted you to know, I feel your pain. It's normal.

Could it be his car seat? Maybe he is not comfortable in it, you could try a different one maybe. I know some car seats are nice and padded and there are some others out there that are not.

Oh man we went through this too - and for a while I avoided car rides or tried to keep them short... and I would stop and comfort her every 15 minutes (I just couldn't stand letting her cry and cry by herself in the back when she was so young!)... and then I discovered NPR. Seriously. For whatever reason, NPR did the trick, like MAGIC. I guess its the calm, monotonous voices... maybe she thinks that the radio is talking to her? In any case, its worth a try. GOOD LUCK :)

i found that when my son was really upset in the car it was because he was too hot.....it didnt seem like he would be no one else was but there backs are pushed against the car seat the sun is on them and because they are rearfacing the ac doesnt reach them as effectively...i used to remove one layer in the car if i could....always easier to add a blanket then try to stop and take off clothes! hope this helps!

My daughter did this, and eventually we realized that the reason was one of two things - she was either uncomfortable I.e. The straps needed adjusting, or she just did not want to be alone in the back seat. She is now 7 months, and still gets upset from time to time, but not nearly as much.I think it is just another one of those phases they sometimes go through that we parents just have to do our best with until it passes.

Good luck and hang in there!

i had the same problem with my daughter. she would cry sometimes until she would vomit. i found out after she was older and the problem stopped that premature babies, whose lungs are not fully developed, when put into the car seat the position of their bodies actually is squishing their lungs. I was told that if i had put a rolled up towel or blanket under her bum to keep the angle of her body a little straighter it would have helped. give it a try, maybe it will help.
good luck

It will just take some time. My son threw up and cried all the way to NY. Now he sits and sleeps or sings.Try go for short rides and then make them a little longer and see if that helps

he is a little young but i tried a mirror. and now i see they have big ones....just make him comfortable as far as being too hot. take off some clothes...we all love our babies soooo much!!!! lol
but babies are not as fragile as everyone thinks. it is still warm outside and in the car its even more so.

I know this is crazy, but my son had this problem too. The ONLY thing that would work is the song..."I want to be like you," from the Jungle Book. As long as we would listen to it over and over and over, he wouldn't say a word. Now that he is almost 15 months we have moved on to the Wiggles, although he stil gets mad when we dont have one of his cds in the car. So my advice is to get a kids cd.

Hi J.,
My son didn't like car rides either. He wouldn't cry to the point of choking but everytime we would stop at a red light he would cry and cry and cry until we finally moved. He did outgrow it and it didn't seem to take too long.
Good luck.

J., my daughter also had this problem, but it started when I had turned her car seat face forward at 12 months. I guess it was just her being in a different position and being up higher and she could see everything now. If we drove for any longer than 10 minutes she would start to cry, scream and eventually vomit every time. As soon as we stopped the car and took her out, everything was back to normal, like it never happened. We made sure there was nothing else wrong with her, but that seemed to be it and her doctor assured us that she would get used to it. It took about 6 months or so before she was ok with riding in the car for more than 10 minutes. The only thing we could to do comfort her in the meantime was to try to distract her, with either her favorite toy or song, and it helped a little when I would place my hand on her chest and talk to her softly. We tried to keep our car rides under 10 minutes but sometimes that was just not possible so we always made sure we brought a towel and covered the front of her so that there would not be vomit all over her and the car seat, and we would stop the car when it was safe for us to do so and take her out for a few minutes so she could recoupe. I hope this helps you, just hang in there it will pass, sounds like you are doing a great job already. Good luck.
