Captions on Tv Using Converter Box

I realize this is a random question, but I cannot get the captions off my tv using a converter box. We just dropped cable and are happy with regular old tv, but the captions are so annoying! Anyone else have trouble with this, any ideas how to get them off? I have pushed the button to turn them off numerous times, I have held it down numerous times and it hasn't worked. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Excuse me! It is VERY annoying to watch TV without knowing what is being said!!

That said, the TV has a menu - it is different for each TV, but it would be under options? sometimes it's called 'subtitles' other times it's called 'captions' It is most likely set to CC1, go through and set it to off (or nearly anything else as the others are usually blank. CC2 sometimes has a "cleaned up" version of captioning without the swear words but I don't know if this works on every TV)

How about trading TV's LOL. My captions used to always be on, then it got so we had to turn it off and back on to get it to appear every time we turned the TV on, and now it wont even work most of the time (we got another TV so we only use this one for video-phoning instead of TV watching and captions dont matter on this TV anymore)

Seriously, TV captions are good for kids, they get to see how words are spelled and improve their reading/writing/spelling skills. (I don't recommend it with the news though LOL. Too many phonetic/stenographic misspellings!)

is got to be in your tv's menu somewhere. Have you unplugged the tv for a minute to let it reboot itself? Sometimes that will work for lots of weird annoyances that happen.

were they on when you had cable... you may need to contact the cable company and tell them after you switched over the captions are on... or call the maker of the tv.. or email them.. even if it's old.. they should be able to help you.. good luck.. and it's annoying seeing all those words on the tv..

It sounds like the captions may have been turned on while you had cable. Did you have a cable box, or a special remote from your cable company? If so, it may be a weird thing to ask of someone, but can you borrow theirs just long enough to hook it up to your tv and see if you can turn the captions off?
