Cant Get Dishes Clean - Littleton,CO

Hi Ladies-
I get this gravel-like substance on the bottom of all my glasses when we clean out our dishwasher. We rinse well before the dishes go in and I make sure to not overfill, but still, it looks like beach sand in the bottom of all our glasses and mugs. It sticks and dries there and is actually fairly difficult to get out before we use them if we don't rinse right out of the washer. I have tried several detergents to no avail. I ran a empty cycle last week and it actually helped for a couple of days, but yesterday I could have filled the kids sand box! Ok, maybe not, but it was a lot. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

We run Tang through the dishwasher about once every 6 months, it cleans out everything and then runs super smoothly with no leftover stuff on the dishes (learned it from a plumber friend).

Could be a few things - if you have hard water maybe you need to add salt to your softener (if you have one); or the opposite - maybe you have a softener, or soft water, and you are using too much soap.
This has been an issue for us. The only thing that has helped is using "Cascade Complete Action Pacs." This has been the only thing to get the residue off our dishes.......hope it works for you. However if you find a different solution please post so I can try that too!

You may need to clean the filter inside your dishwasher. Google the model number and brand along with "filter cleaning" and you can get the directions on how to access it and the best way to clean it.

We had a similar problem for a long time and finally figured out, oddly enough, that if we put something in the dishwasher that contained soy milk, the glasses and mugs would have this type of grainy residue. Now we rinse thoroughly if soy milk was in a glass, mug, or bowl, and the problem is gone.

I would try using jet dry and if that doesn't solve the problem then it sounds to me like u need to have your dishwasher serviced or replaced

when that happened to ours, we found out we didn't have enough water pressure so the dishwasher wasn't getting enough water. I had to hire a plumber to fix the problem

I would try LemiShine. Now that there are no phosphates in our detergents, the soap builds up in our dishwashers. LemiShine breaks down the soap build up with citric acid. I love the way my glasses look now! Best Wishes. H.

I had that trouble with granual type detergents. I use cascade gel now, and havent seen that stuff for a while. I am wondering if its minerals in your water that settle in the bottom upside down glasses and as the drying cycle runs the water evaporates, leaving the mineral deposit. Maybe try not using the drying cycle and open the door, take a towel and dab those cups and get the water out. Then let them air dry and see if that helps.
