If you are getting a lapband-my guess is that you have a bit of weight to lose and may want to have done that before you get pregnant-so that you and your baby will have every advantage from a health standpoint. Can you get pregnant with a lapband? Yes.
Yes, you can get pregnant with lapband. Lapband does not affect fertility; in fact, if you are overweight (obese), losing weight will only enhance your fertility. Having a BMI over 35 inhibits your ability to become pregnant. Hope this helps and good luck!!
from my understanding you can become pregnant but then when you're pregnant your doc has to take the band (or part of it) off, then redo it when you're ready after baby. This is what a friend of mine had to do recently at least. I would definitely discuss this with a doctor and really research it. If I were in that situation I would wait one year and lose as much weight on my own as I could (set a goal and starting to TTC could be a great motivation) then TTC, then have lapband if you really need it later on. Good luck with whatever you decide!
This is a question for a doctor. The lapband wouldn't prevent pregnancy as it has nothing to do with sex, BUT the pregnancy would affect the lap band I would guess because of the room being taken up by the baby and pushing organs around. As your doctor.
Why not? It's not birth control, it's dealing with digestion. Yes, you can still get pregnant.
A lapband doesn't involve the reproductive organs so it certainly can't "prevent" pregnancy.
Whether or not it's safe to carry and have a baby after the procedure is another thing all together.
Discuss it with your doctor, for sure.
The doctor will ask you to wait about a year after the lap-band procedure before attempting pregnancy. Especially for the 1st six months, you will lose weight at such a rapid rate that your body will have enough to do to adjust to the reduction in calorie intake. You may lose some hair and be very tired, but all this levels out around the end of the 1st year. At this healthier weight, you will be more fertile! (I had even stopped having a regular period due to the excess pounds, but all of that was turned around.)
When you become pregnant, the doctor will drain the fluid from the band so that you can take in more nutrition for your baby. After delivery, and possibly you've finished breastfeeding, the fluid can be slowing replaced in the band through the port. That is the purpose behind choosing a lap-band over the permanent procedures, bypass or sleeve, it's adjustable!
Being pregnant at a healthier weight will help you avoid gestational diabetes, and will save you A LOT of trouble if you end up needing a C-section. One caution I must share with you though is that band patients are very susceptible to heartburn and reflux. Be prepared to stock up on Tums!
