My daughter wants to go to Texas Tech, but she isn't ready for a big university yet. We also can not afford a big university all 4 years! We are looking for a nurturing place. Somewhere she will be successful that will help ease her transition to a big school. I want her to live in a dorm the 1st year. She wants a nice campus with a good workout facility and to get some of the college experience...Sporting events, etc. Not too close to home. Not too far away. Maybe 2 to 4 hours outside DFW. Any suggestions?
Blinn College in Bryan, TX is really good. They offer lots of classes and many are taught by professors that also teach at A&M....so they are harder than the normal community college classes. College Station is a great, safe place to live. Blinn is also located in Brenham, which is a great little town with a small town feel. I believe both Blinns have dorms.

CCCC is great. And they are turning it into a 4 year school.
Tyler Junior College is another one you might want to consider, as well as Kilgore.

Collin County Community College is excellent. I know of several students who went there the first year with intentions of transferring to a larger school and it worked out very well.
CCCC has programs tailored to your interests and the school requirements for the school y ou want to go to. For instance, a neighbor had a dream of going to SMU and financially it was tough on the family. So, we went to CCCC for 1 yr then transferred through the SMU program and absolutely loved it.
I don't know if they have dorms though.
My daughter graduates in 2013 and we are already visiting colleges. She can't wait for dorm life and then living in Italy at least a year.

We have an excellent community college but it does not have dorms or sports.
Have you considered any of the little colleges around Texas.

You might check out Northeast Texas Community College in east Texas. It's about 2 1/2 hours from here. I went there for the first two years because I lived nearby and didn't have the money to live in a dorm, but they do have dorms, as well as competitive baseball and softball teams. They also have a very nice workout facility (it was considered nice when I went there 15 years ago, and I think since then they've expanded it and added an indoor pool). It's in a very rural area, which was my biggest complaint.
Navarro College in Corsicana. They have campuses in Midlothian and Waxahachie-but the only dorms are in Corsicana.
Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX. It is located 2 hrs from DFW area and it is not too small. They have the dorm life, workout facilities, and the sports events your daughter is looking for. I went there several years ago and it was a great transition that I needed before entering a big university. The staff there is very caring about the students education and very helpful. I encourage you to take her on a campus tour and I guarantee she will love it.
