Can You Freeze Lunch Meats?

I came across a great price for our favorite sliced, smoked turkey and couldn't help but buy the 2 lbs package... now I am a little worried that I may just end up throwing half of it out, since really I don't like to keep it open for more than 5 days or so...

Have you ever frozen sliced lunch meat and does it work out fine? I would only be freezing it for a week or so, to use up next week...

What can I do next?

Yes! Either keep it in the original packaging, or break it into smaller packages. I wrap it in Saran wrap and then place the bundles in a ziploc in the freezer. I also use the small vacuum bags.

yep! freeze it baby!! :)

If you only use 1/2 at a time - then wrap it securely in something like the Glad Cling Wrap and put it in a ziploc bag. So you are only pulling out the amount you need!!

You can defrost by pulling it out and putting it in hot water in your sink to soak in (in the bag of course!) or setting it on the counter for a few hours.

Yes, you can. They only should only be kept for 2-3 months in the freezer, though. I wrap mine in foil or plastic wrap, then put them in a Ziploc freezer bag.

I freeze it all the time, but I take it out of its package and wrap it in "Press n Seal". Keeps it much fresher and prevents freezer burn and frost getting in like so many plastic wraps do. I try to wrap in slices that will be enough for a couple days, and then stick all the slices into a zip lock bag for a bit more protection and also easier to find if they are all together instead of all over the freezer. I take out one little pack at a time and leave it in the fridge over night to thaw for sandwiches the next day.

I've had it work out fine before. we did sort of a buffet under the tent of our outdoor wedding and we had a meat tray for sandwichs (my dad is a manager at chilis so he catered the wedding) and had a lot of leftover deli meat. We put it in the freezer for about a month and it was fine.

I've frozen bologna and salami before without a problem. Try it and see. I've never frozen the deli sliced meats, but I think they would be okay.
