Can You Freeze Lettuces?

I am pregnant and constantly craving lettuce/ spinach leafs etc... with salsa. My problem is I do not like it at all once it starts to turn slightly brown or soggy, and I don't want to keep running to the store for fresh stuff, so can it freeze? Does it thaw well? Or do you know a better way to keep it fresh longer?

What can I do next?

I personally think that lettuce after it's frozen is disgusting. It doesn't freeze well at all.

I found these hefty green baggies for produce and they work really well. So does washing it and putting damp paper towels in a baggie with it.

Good luck.

Lettuce will keep fresh for at least 2 weeks if you wash it, wrap it in paper towels, and store in ziploc bag in fridge. My grandma swears by those Debbie Meyer's Green Bags also!!

Put your lettuce in ice water for a few minutes. Then use paper towels and roll up individual leaves up in kitchen towel and put in cold area of fridge. (one relative in FL uses the paper towels and the other just wraps the indiv. leaves in towel) I go through the head so fast during the week that I just use the ice water and put it back in bag and store in fridge drawer.

Uhhh no, you cannot freeze lettuce or spinach or any greens unless you're going to cook them. They darken and get all wilt-y if you do. I've had luck keeping my lettuce in the lettuce spinner. I'm sure a veggie keeper would also help, but keep in mind lettuce doesn't keep very long to begin with. I've noticed that if I buy the organic spinach in the plastic box and not the bag, it keeps a bit longer.

I wash it, wrap it in paper towels and keep it in a ziploc (not fully closed).

Not too long ago my hubby brought a piece of tupperware for me that was for lettuce and things like that. It worked great, had little vents on the front with instruction on how much to vent for what product you are storing. I just don't use it because it is long and take up space in my fridge.

Good luck

I think lettuce is soggy once u thaw it out. Try those "green bags" from Bed Bath and Beyond, that is what we use. Good Luck and Congrats on your pregnancy!

It doesn't thaw well. It's very limp.
