We let our cat have access to our garage as well. All I do is leave the garage door cracked open just enough for him to get in & out. If your dog is not too big, this could be an option.
We would like our dogs to have access to the garage when they are in our yard, but the only way to put a dog door in is through the garage door. We have a huge detached garage, one side is the hubby's work shop, which is the side that has a regular door in addition to the garage door. It would be dangerous to let them in there. The other side would be theirs but only has a garage door. Is this possible? Has anyone done it? Thanks

I have seen dog doors in grage doors. I have also seen where there was a dog door directly in the wall. One was into a laundary/pantry room at my brothers house and the other was into a garage at a friends home. Either way it can be done!
My parents have three cats that constantly want in and out of their garage at all times of the day and night. Last fall they were robbed and decided it was no longer an option on whether or not they left the garage door open. My dad installed a pet door, and things have worked great for them ever since. It took the cats a couple of days to realize that there was a door on the big door, but once they got it, they haven't had another problem.

My aunt has a glass door along with a wooden door. She keeps the wooden door open during the day. So she had the same dilema because you cant put a dog door in the glass door.....so she got a carpenter to cut a hole and put the dog door in the wall next to the door. He also made it water resistant by caulking around it and it is pretty good cuz it dosent let the hot air out or the cold air out its is well insulated! But if your husband is handy perhaps he could do it, its kind of tricky so I would consult a professinal! Hope this helps!
My brother has one in his garage door. It's for a medium sized dog. It depends on how big the sections are on the door and how big the dog door is. It can't be bigger than any of the sections of the garage door or it won't open properly.
