I have a horrible headache or what ever it is at the top of my head and that is it. It feels like someone is pounding a hammer in my head or that my skull is being pushed in only on the top of my head. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had a CT Scan in the beginning of the year due to having my 1st migraine after given a prescription pill. I haven't had one since. I want to see a neurologist but my Dr won't let me she thinks it is Depression. I don't know how to get her to let me go.

Is this a new symptom, a headache you never had before? Don't take a chance with a new onset headache of that severity - You should go to the ER and have an MRI to rule out the many possibilities.

You may be getting a sinus infection. Does your face hurt? Drink lots of water you could be dehydrated.

get some electrolytes in your system, like gatorade or powerade or pediasure ... make sure your hair is down (not in a headband, or scruncii, or pony or anything of the sort) ... turn down/off lights if you can and have something protien worthy ... penut butter jelly on wheat, peanut butter and celery, eggs and toast, salad with chicken something light but protien.

I went onto webmd & looked up headaches/migraines. I came up with the following slideshow which has several possible triggers & some ideas to help alleviate headaches altogether:

Sounds like a migraine. They can happen when the barometric pressure changes (drastic change in weather), when you get your period or sometimes even if you are dehydrated. HA's are usually the 1st sign of dehydration.
Try some Excedrin Migraine - sometimes it can help. Or go to a dark, quiet room and sleep for an hour or two. Drink lots of water.
I have had migraines since I was 12 and I'm in my 30's. They are no fun!
Good luck!!

I get this sometimes when the weather is radically changing (Usually spring and fall). If a large pressure front is moving in/out or the temp is taking a 30 degree jump or drop, I'll just want to wear a heating pad on my head all day.
Excedrin Migraine sometimes helps but it's got caffeine in it and I can't take it towards the end of the day. Keep your fluids up can help a bit, too. The worst ones I get last about a day and I only get a few of these a year.

It most likely is just a sinus headache or migraine. Hydrate, eat a light snack and take some motrin and see if it gets better. If this is seriously the worst headache/pain you have ever had and it is extremely painful consider going to the ER to eliminate anything more serious.

A migraine is localized on one side of the head or the other, and feels sort of pulsating. I agree with Liv B. - an MRI or at least a CT scan is not a bad idea. The ER should be able to do a CT scan right away and give you results within an hour. Please try to get someone else to drive you though!

So I am having the same issues, I have been getting headaches at the Top of my head, kind of like my hair is being pulled tight, even if my hair is down, or like I have a tight band on or something, When I am laying down, its not bad, but if I sit up or stand, its like a throbbing.. So i seen my Dr. and got a physical, and I have an appointment to see a Neurologist. So maybe see a Dr. My Ex had some similar symptoms, and he had a Anurism. And I had another cousin, who had headaches, not sure how hers felt, but she passed the day before she seen the neurologist, So if they are bad, and constant. you should get checked out.
