If your last pregnancy with the same father resulted in a miscarriage because of trisomy, then it is possible that this one will too. You need to consult with a genetic counselor to know what the odds are.

Your doctor is the only one who can answer this question. I urge you to see a genetic counselor before attempting any further pregnancies if this one fails. You do not need to suffer this sort of loss and fear.

I don't know what the 1/49 means. Are you saying the odds were 1 in 49 that you would have a baby with trisomy or 1 in 49 that your baby would be normal? If so, only you know if you're willing to take the chance. And, I suggest the odds would be the same for this pregnancy if it's the same father.

In regards to the subchorionic bleed, did you google those specific words? I found several sites that discussed that condition. However, if your question is what are the odds that this subchorionc bleed will result in a miscarriage, I don't think there is any way of knowing. Time will tell. I know that's not what you want to hear. Ask the doctor to be sure.

Unfortunately, we can't really tell you that. Your doctor should send you to Genetic Counselor. They are the ones that can calculate your risks.

Hi C.,

I am so sorry for your loss. Congratulations on your pregnancy-- I know it is so scary to go through that and not only once, twice~! I would say from your history, you have a greater chance of it happening again. But worrying won't help you. The best thing you can do is follow your Dr.s advice and rest, rest, rest. Let others do things for you so you can not stress yourself or overwork your body. Best wishes for a successful, healthy pregnancy.

I think you need to get off the web and get with a genetic counselor to go over your specifics. Trisomy 18 is just a heartbreak and you need to assess risks with a professional who can be involved with you and the father. The internet is great BUT there is so much out there that is misleading, and none of it is going to be specific enough to YOUR family and YOUR genetics to be helpful. Good luck!

You need to visit with a genetic counselor to find out your chances of having another baby with a chromosome abnormality. They will do genetic testing on both parents to determine if either one has any chromosome abnormality. If both are normal, your chances are very small. If one parent has a chromosome problem, then it could happen again. Ask for a referral from your OB/GYN. Ask your doctor how soon you should try to get pregnant again-they may recommend that you wait to give you body time to heal and your hormones time to normalize. Three pregnancies in one year is hard on your body and your mind. Good luck !
