Can Anyone Reccomend a Safe All in One Stroller?

I was looking at my registry yesterday and realized that the stroller/car seat combo I picked out was pretty expensive! It is the Graco Metrolite Travel System in cherry blossom. Any suggestions in the $150 area? I'm going to be a single mom at the end of March and it's vital that I have the car seat by that time. But there are too many to choose from!

What can I do next?

Baby Trend is very reputable and inexpensive. I got a BabyTrend travel system with my first son 3 years ago. I was able to use it with my middle son and if I wanted I could use it with Baby #3 but am choosing not too because I need a triple stroller as I am going to be alone with my 3 children for a big part of the next few years (husband enlisted in the Navy.
Also if you go to Babies R Us.com you can read reviews from other parents on items.

Just my 2-cents worth . . . I got the Metrolite travel system with my first (now 2 1/2 years old) and LOVED it! The stroller was so much lighter than any other full sized stroller at that time, easy to maneuver, easy to get out and fold back up, comfortable for the baby . . .

So, if you receive it as a gift, enjoy! If you're still looking for cheaper options, look around online a bit. I know the Delancy pattern was the only pattern available 3 years ago, so perhaps some online stores will be selling that one cheaper.

I have a Graco Literider and the tandem that they make that I got when I had my twins, and I love them both. I often look at other Mother's strollers and say a silent thanks that I have mine. I don't know what your income situation is like, and maybe you can get it even if you don't qualify for WIC, but when my husband was finishing college a few years ago and we needed car seats for the twins, the lady at the WIC office signed us up for a program that the fire department does that allows you to buy a car seat for $10 if you agree to watch a video about how to install it and then fill out a survey a year later to see how much you remember. That was down in Champaign, but this is still Illinois and the program should be statewide.

Personally....I would not get a travel system. You can get a car seat and one of those stroller frames that you can snap the seat into for alot cheaper. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2327597

I think the frames are about $50. I hated the big old stroller and I never used it. Just make sure that your carseat has a higher weight limit on it cause some of them only go up to like 22 lbs and with alot of babies that is not going to last you very long. (my son was out of it around 4 months)

Here is one with a higher height/weight limit:

I am getting ready to have my second and I am planning on going a very different route this time...I hated lugging around that carrier...they are soooo heavy! Instead, I have a convertible carseat that can be used for an infant for one of our cars and my old infant seat in the other car, but I am just going to take the baby out and put them in a sling/soft carrier rather than taking the car seat in and out. Yes, the baby may wake up a bit, but I also felt like the baby was always in the carrier and not getting enough physical interaction...I would rather hold him, kwim?

I have a fancy umbrella stroller that I spent alot on but I LOVE that I got for my older son when he was a little bigger and I will use that once the baby is big enough.

Travel systems have their pros and cons. My sister didn't like them at all...I'm fine with them though I do see both sides of it. What I did was got the pieces separate to save a lot of money. The patterns weren't the same, but it was worth it to me to save the money (well, my mom's money because she got it for us but she could get us a lot more because the money she spent was to be the same regardless). Anyway, we got the snugride carseat/carrier from Target. This weeks it's actually on sale for $64 I saw in the ad. The stroller with the matching pattern is also $64 this week at Target. We actually bought OUR Graco stroller at Menards...a special deal they had at the time for ridiculously cheap, like $30, so our "system" was under $100. The stroller was the same type as came in the system as far as I could tell, and held up to daily walks (except in winter) for a couple years there and is still working, though we no longer use it every day now that we need the double more often instead with doing home day care. (I understnad the having the car seat in time deal...my mom ended up bringing it to the hospital to us gift wrapped as it was ready for a shower that we didn't make it to before the baby was born at 5 weeks early. :)Best wishes to you!
