At five months the BEST food for your baby, hands down, is breastmilk. This is undisputed, scientific fact. Ask your pediatrition.
If your milk has dried up, for whatever reason, using a breast pump several times a day will bring some back in for you. It could be an invaluable nutritional supplement.
The second best food for a 5 month old is formula. If you don't want to or cannot breastfeed, formula should be making up the bulk of your baby's diet.
There are no other foods commonly recommeded for a baby under 6 months. Other foods can cause allergies and other problems at this age.
After six months, you should feed your baby as varied a diet as possible, but still rely somewhat on breastmilk or formula. Remember that your child will be more adventurous in their eating later if you help widen their horizons now.
I wish you the best.
