We are considering going camping with our 15 mo. old and another couple and their 18 mo. old. Any suggestions for good camping area? I was thinking somewhere not too far away (NH) and a place that you can pull your car up to the campsite but where it's still natural and woodsy. I am not looking for an RV-type of campground but instead a pitch a tent and roast marshmallows kind of place. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I HIGHLY recommend Glen Ellis campground in the White Mountains. http://www.glenelliscampground.com/
It is very family-friendly, and the sights are woodsy (but you park your car right in the site), and the Saco River runs right by the campground (keep your eyes on the little ones). They also have a fenced-in pool (if it's warm enough) and decent bathroom facilities. I've had some really great times there and would recommend it to anyone!

Are you campers from the past? Emerald Lake State Park is great. Lean-to sights and paths. Canoe rentals and paddle boats. Vermont but worth it.

We love Nickerson State Park on Cape Cod (not on the ocean but with very pretty lakes and sandy beaches) and I've heard good things about Pawtuckaway State Park in Southern NH. NH isn't really an option right now because of the bugs, wait until later this summer!

Hi J.,

Sorry if this posts twice; I had trouble with my system.
We were in a similar situation trying to find a place to go. I spent alot of time looking up campgrounds in NH and reading reviews. Finally, it was down to two places and both happened to have reps at the camping & rv show in Providence a couple of months ago. We made a point of going to the show and after speaking to one rep (the other had gone by the time we got there), we chose his campground. It's called Goose Hollow Camp & RV Park in Thornton NH (near Campton).
The owner, George was very nice and has put alot of work into the campground he said. As it turns out, an old friend of mine used to stay there years ago and had very positive things to say. It's family oriented and simple, not alot of fuss and fanfare and we found the prices for tent camping to be very affordable.
Their website is: www.nhcampgrounds.com

Good luck and have fun!
P.
