Hi,
We are going camping next week and I was wondering if anyone has any diinner ideas besides the noramal hamburgers, steaks, chcikens, etc. We do have a camper so I can even prepare some meals ahead of time. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all the great ideas! Some of your ideas I never would have thought of myself! I am going to the store today with my list.

There's always hobo dinners. Take your favorite meat and veggies, add some spices, cheese, butter, etc, wrap it up in foil and place it on the coals from your campfire for 45 minutes to an hour. Yum!!
We have done spaghetti and chili before--easy meals and good for feeding a large group.
Frito pie is an easy one. Make ahead and put in crock pot. Use chips in the bag for easy clean up.
Another good one is stuffed potatoes. Take a big potatoe and slice it like your making chips but don't cut all the way thru. In between the slices put onions, garlic, or whatever you want. Put pads of butter in between. Cover tightly in foil and bake. The kids can make their own.
Last year we went camping and I brought the turkey frier with the propane tank. On top instead of the big pot I put a griddle and I cooked the pancakes and hamburgers on that. It was quick, didn't heat up the camper and didn't have to wait for the pit.
Good luck and HAVE FUN!!

How about a pizza on the grill? I haven't done it before but know people who have and said it was yummy. My neighbor does a grilled Caesar salad in which he grills both the chicken and the lettuce. OMG it is SOOOOOO good!!!! Spaghetti would be easy to do too. Have fun!
The Pie Iron is a wonderful camping tool....we take slices of bread, butter like you do for grill cheese sandwiches but add pizza sauce, cheese and your favorite pizza toppings for campfire pizzas. Instead of pizza we also make them with canned pie filling for a dessert.
Enjoy your camping trip!!
I usually make a bunch of brats and hot dogs. They are easily warmed up. Kabobs? Mac and cheese in microwave?
Some ideas from my son's Scout troop: walking tacos, spaghetti (pre-made or jarred sauce), sub sandwiches, easy quesadillas. Sloppy joes, too.
Pulled chicken sandwiches. You can heat it up in a pan on a camp stove. (We get ours at Costco. It's delicious.) Grill up some corn to go with it. (Soak the corn in the husk for several hours and then put it right on the grill like that.)
Also shiskabobs. You can cut everything up ahead of time.
You can make all sorts of things in foil packs on the grill or in coals... I have had the best luck with heavy duty foil and a bit of cooking oil in the foil first. Some of my families favorites are taco meat, then take the fixings, or slice up potatoes and sausage or your favorite meat and in each pack put each person's favorite veggies... Also if you have a large all metal pot and a grate to put over the campfire, omelets in a bag are good. Use freezer bags, crack eggs and your favorite omelet fixings into the bag, put them in the boiling water, pull them out when their done and dump them from the bag onto a plate. (It really works!) You can also cut the top off of an orange, scrape out the fruit and eat it, fill it 2/3 full of cake batter, put the top back on and wrap it in foil and put it in the coals and make cupcakes... These are all things kids can have fun helping with too! (Grown ups help with the cutting parts of course....)
We used the Pie Iron. Find one that is cast iron. Season it before you go. I seasoned mine over hot coals in our weber grill.
You can make grilled cheese sandwiches, sausage and peppers, etc.
We found ours at Dicks Sporting Good store and it came with a bunch of recipe ideas.
We just went camping last weekend with my family. We grilled one night (someone prepared burgers ahead of time and I brought marinated chicken; we also had hot dogs for the kids). The other two nights, my SIL and I each made a casserole ahead of time, which we just warmed up in the camper -- can be done either in the oven or microwave. I also made a french toast bake for breakfast one morning. For breakfasts, we usually have cereal for the kids, but we've also done the scrambles, too. We'd fry bacon, ground sausage and hashbrowns ahead of time, then warm up in a skillet and add eggs. Have fun!
