Hey All,
I asked a question what Lilypadz before and got responses that they are great. For those of you that dont know what Lilypadz are, its basically a pasty that puts pressure on the nipple to prevent it from leaking. Well I received mine in the mail and started using them. They work good. But Im wondering, when I have let down, its preventing any milk from coming out, which sort of makes my boobs feel like they are going to blow off my body. There is so much pressure and its painful. Now, nipple experts, could this cause clogged ducts and infections? I dont know, the pressure and preventing it to come out doesnt seem natural to me. My boobs are feeling more sore than usual.

What can I do next?

This would have been such a cute find had i known about them sooner (my youngest daughter is named Lilly)

I have however learned the hard way that covering the nipples and areola at any time during the beginning stages of breastfeeding always proves to be a bad idea. I am speaking of the gel pads and nipple covers.

I used them with both kids, and I never had a clogged duct while using them. Have you been cutting down on the number of times you nurse in a day? If so, then that may be why you are feeling more full/tender than usual. I liked the Lilypadz because I leaked SO much that I'd end up leaking through the normal type of nursing pads, and would always have wet spots on my shirts! Eek! So for me, it was great that the Lilypadz didn't allow that to happen. But if it bothers you, then by all means, go back to the usual type of nursing pads. It's great to have several options to choose from!

I have to agree with Rachel K. And obviously by what you are describing these are not the right solution for you and your particular body and nursing needs right now.

I would just use regular nursing pads preventing leaking and let down doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I'm actually not familiar with these... I've always used the basic pads that are disposable and feel like cloth. I think allowing some leakage is good... stopping the leakage would cause pain and possible engorgement because the excess milk has no where to go.

Yes, I could definitely see the potential for clogged ducts, which is unresolved may turn into an infected clogged duct.
