I decorate cakes as a side business. Buttercream tastes really good, can be made ahead of time and it is easy to decorate with. I would recommend that if this is your first venture into cake decorating. The Wilton's recipe posted here works well. If you are looking for that whipped frosting like Walmart uses, it's Rich's Bettercream. It comes already colored and apparently you can buy it by the gallon at Sam's. I have no idea how easy it is to work with or how expensive it may be. Since it is a non-dairy spread it cannot be frozen and I am unsure of its lifespan. I found this recipe on one of my cake sites that claims to be a copy cat of the Bettercream. I have never tried it, but the reviews looked good.

Walmart's Whipped Buttercream Icing

2 cups butter
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
2 large egg whites
1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup powdered sugar

Place butter in mixing bowl, add 2 cups powdered sugar; mix at low speed to obtain smooth paste. Whip at medium speed, adding the condensed milk until light and fluffy.

Using a very clean bowl and beater, whip the egg whites until stiff while adding the 1/2 cup powdered sugar slowly. Mix this slowly into the above butter mixture. Add vanilla and remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar. This last amount of powdered sugar can be doubled if stiffer icing is desired.

Good luck, hope this helps!

I always use Wilton's Butter cream icing, it is easy and everyone loves it =) www.Wilton.com

They have a ton of recipes for icing, but the most basic is the butter cream. I am sure the other recipes are delicious as well.
