My niece makes a 'stuffed' bundt super chocolate cake by filling the bundt pan halfway with batter, then a layer of strawberry preserves in the middle, then fill up with the cake batter.

She uses a strawberry whipped cream frosting, incorporating chopped and sugared fresh strawberries at the end of whipping.

(And yes, she's my favorite niece!)

You can make a middle filling layer from strawberry preserves or fresh strawberries.

I make a triple chocolate bundt cake. Make your favorite chocolate cake batter, with chocolate pudding and mini chocolate chips folded into the batter. It's so fudgey, theres no need for frosting and I like something to cut the richness of it. So, I cut the tops off of cold strawberries and dry them well. Just before serving, I fill the hole in the middle with strawberries and pile them all around the base of the cake. It's pretty and everyone gets a section of the cake with a few fresh strawberries on thier plate. Tastes great together and always gets a lot of oohs and ahhs.
Kids are so literal. I think putting whole, fresh strawberries on the cake is going to be your best bet to satisfy his request.

I'm NO Betty Crocker, but I think 2 chocolate cakes, and then a layer of strawberries in between. You can use fresh or frozen (frozen might give you a little more "adhesive" since they'll be moist when you put them on the cake).

You can also get some Strawberry Jello, bake the cake as normal, then take a straw or meat thermometer and poke holes in the cake about half way down, not all the way, then pour the liquid Strawberry Jello over the cake, into the holes. Chill for about 30m. Frost with icing or cool whip. Top with Strawberries around the top.

If you pour too much, or the holes go all the way to the bottom, the bottom of the cake will become mushy.

Could you try a swirl cake? Make the chocolate cake and a strawberry cake from scratch and then drop in alternating cake flavors. I have done this with chocolate and white cakes. The other option would be a strawberry filling in the middle of two layers. I'll pm you the recipes.

I made a chocolate cake for my son's birthday with whipped cream and strawberries and it was GOOD. The cake part was "Gianna's chocolate whipped cream cake" from delish.com. The batter seems runny but once baked, it holds together well for a layer cake and has a good texture. I used 8" round pans and the layers were tall enough to slice across to make it a 4 layer cake. I frosted it with 1 pint of extra heavy whipping cream, more than they called for, made it vanilla not chocolate and whipped it pretty stiff. Then added thin sliced strawberries in the whipped cream between layers, and larger pretty strawberry halves on top.

What about just chocolate cake, and then topping it with strawberries - or even better - chocolate covered strawberries!

I made chocolate/strawberry cupcakes for my dd's soccer party. Filled the liner 1/2 way with chocolate cake batter, put in a spoonful of strawberry preserves, then topped of with cake batter. Baked them as directed and frosted with strawberry frosting - worked great!

I made a chocolate covered strawberry cupcake the other day that I loved!

I made regular chocolate cupcakes. When they cooled, I used a decorating tip and hollowed a hole in the middle. I mixed strawberries with strawberry gel and put it in the cupcake. Then I put a strawberry/chocolate butter cream swirl frosting (strawberry frosting and chocolate frosting put on opposite sides of the pastry bag so they swirl when they come out of the bag) on top.

YUM!

If he likes whipped cream, you can always make a layer cake and fill it with strawberries and cream. Slightly sweetened whipped cream with strawberries does perfectly well as a filler. You could also top the cake with the strawberries and cream.
